Attending Bowie has been vaulable because I've been able to learn how to read the bus shedule as well as the train schedule. The teachers are always willing to help and with the resources being so accessible on the campus I don't need to frantically search for anything outside the campus.

My college experience at Bowie State University has helped mold me into the woman I am today. At times I have been led astray but, I have made life time friends that I will never forget and I have changed into a woman yet I entered as a girl. The exxperiences I have shared and the trials which I have overcome have made my college experience unforgettable. I believe attending a historically black college is not just a life changing opportunity for African American student but any ethinicity as well. The ultimate purpose of attending college is to learn how to network and market yourself in the society which we live in today. I must confess I believe that purpose was achieved throughout my matriculation at Bowie State University and thats why it will always be valued in my heart. For helping develop me into a woman whom my family and friends can be proud of while teaching me how to create a foundation that my daughter will be intrigued to follow.

My college experience greatly impacted all facets of my life. Upon entering college I was sheltered and lacked confidence. I was unsure of my place in this world. As a minority student coming from a working class, inner city family, from which I was the first to ever attend college, I don't believe that society expected me to do anything of consequence. However, due to the opportunity that I received to attend college, I took control of my destiny. I was able to live in a different environment and come into contact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff who enriched my life. Although education is an obvious benefit to attending college, I would argue that the overall experience is the greatest gift of all. "Transformation" is the perfect word to describe the process that occurred during my undergraduate years. On graduation day, I emerged into the world assertive and confident in regards to both my personal strength and professional goals. Now I am aggressively pursuing a career in psychology. The time I spent pursuing my bachelor's degree prepared me to be successful in all areas of my life. For that, I will be eternally grateful.

What i have gotten from my college experience is a better understanding of people and how they behave in certain situations. I have learned that you have to put your education before partying and hanging out because the people you hang with may not be motivated and can hold you back from doin what you need to do. I attended a two-year community college and it gave me time to really figure out what i want to become in life. It gave me the opportunity to learn big and small life lessons before i moved on to a four year. It is valueable for me to attend college so that i can have an education and a nice job and so that i can take good care of my family like my parents took care of me. I know that without an education life can be pretty difficult. I strive everyday to betterr myself and i hope that i can get this scholarship so that my mother will have a few less worries on her mind about how she will get her children through college.

That its ok to party but you need to have things prioritized, that the only way you can make it. Its been valuable because it sets a guideline for yourself to follow in order to be prepared for anything.

During my two years at my college, College of the Desert I have grow so much, never regretting one moment. As I attended COD full time, I worked part time. Since I learned how to balance many things in high school, I was able to balance school, work, and various activates in college. On Sunday?s, I teach 2-3 year olds in the nursery at my church. When I don?t teach in Sunday school I sing on my church?s worship team. I also volunteer at Club Mojave to coach volleyball. Playing the sport taught me a lot about how to manage my time wisely, be a leader of a team, and deal with stressful situations so I knew by coaching volleyball I could teach my players the same things I learned by playing the sport. My coaching experience taught me a lot of things, but most importantly it taught me that I could be capable of handling anything, even teenage girls. By not leaving the valley to attend college I was able to get involved with my community. These experiences could not have been more fulfilling to me and now I am ready to continue my education.

Since my first year of college is almost done I have experienced so much. I had to learn that work came before play. It has been valuable to attend Bowie State because not everyone gets a change to go to collegfe and the fact that i got to experience it and live on campus is a dream come true,

If I could go back in time and talk to my high school senior self, the first thing I would say is let go of fear. Fear kept me from leaving home and attending my first choice university. I would tell myself that settling for what?s familiar is a choice I would later regret. It?s important to look at universities that offer a diverse group of people and cultures. It?s time to expand your mind and confront any preconceived notions you have about other cultures.
The second important thing I would tell myself is talk to the director of your potential major department. When talking to this person observe their professionalism and passion for the field. You don?t want to be a part of a department that does not possess these attributes because it could deter you from your field. Also see if there are any students who are willing to give you a firsthand account of the school. If you consider all these things I?m positive you will make a choice that you won?t regret later.

First i would advice myself to start looking for scholarships at the very beginning of the year. Money has been a pain for my family and I and because of this i wasn't able to go to the school i wanted to. Developing a relationship with your counselor will also help you along the way when you need help searching for the right colleges and scholarships. Applying for Early Decision admission is always the best route. This will help the planning process of choosing the best school much easier and you'll have extra time to make your choice. Also considering schools close to home for your first year. It isn't such a bad idea having family nearby especially in emergency situations like when you have no food. The most important advice i would give myself is to choose the college that best suites me and not to relay too much on the opinions of others. Make sure you do your own research and go on as many college tours and possible and most importantly, be proactive. This is your college exprience, so have fun and make it the best four years of your life!

Coming out of High School I didnt have the best GPA. So my main goal was to do extremely better in college than I did in high school. My first semester of school i did pretty well for a freshman, by recieving a 2.9. Even though I did well, i felt that I should have done better. But, my first semester I was involved in alot of extracurricular activities; like SGA, ROTC, and a club called BMA. As a result I had alot of distractions involving my schoolwork. Also time management was a very big issue to me. It was times when I was stressed out because of the heavy load so early in my college years, but fortunately I was able to survive the semester. So the first advice I would give myself is to not get involved in so much so early, because every moment in your freshman year counts. Once I upgrade from a freshman the work cant do nothing but get harder. I would also tell myself to focus more on my school work and dont let outside peers, parties, or something as simple as time management to put a stall on my success.

If I could go back in time , I would say, not to stress or worry about college and to enjoy your last year of high school. College is not that much more different once yuou become acustomed to how everything works. And even though high school may be getting on your nerves, once the time is gone its gone. College is one of the last steps in your education process before you become a professional in the work force, just like your parents. Right now you don't have to worry too much about time or money management so enjoy the good life while you can. The independence that you gain in college making up your schedule, doing your laundry without being told, making your own bed time are all essential parts of growing up that you will become accustumed to. So my overall message would be to just keep your grades up, stay out of trouble, and enjoy life and don't try to rush anything. Everyday I think about high school and how much I miss it, but then I look back and see how much I've grown into an adult.

As a senior in high school, life was very easy. I was passing important state exams and making A's in all my subjects. I f I knew what I know now, I would've had more confidence, because I know now they only thing to fear is yourself. These are the steps I would have taken. " Alicia our senior year is coming to an end, and we need to start realizing what is our future profession. Also start saving money for college books , and gas. Try to become more a "social butterly," to meet people on campus. Embrace yourself for who you are, and stay focus. Make sure to get to know your teachers, and volunteer to help your community. Apply for interns, or go work at a local franchise. Do not forget to study, study, and study for first semester courses. Lets get ready to make those A's." Thats is what I would have told myself, if I went back to my senior year!

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would make sure I talked about studying for the SAT's and AP exams. I did not take these two things seriously while in high school. I wish I would have taken it seriously because I missed out on alot of scholarship opportunities. If I could go back in time I would also tell myself to attend a community college and then transfer into a four year college. I wasted alot of money and time jumping from one four year university to another. I realized I received the same education at Prince Georges Community College as I did at North Carolina A&T State University, Delaware State University and Bowie State University. I would also tell myself to take time to apply for scholarships and grants before applying for a loan. I took out loans for my first couple of years of college and wish I did not. I would also tell my self to network while on campus. I graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA and have not found a career in my field.

If I had the chance to go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would have tried to convince myself to try harder to save money and get scholarships. If I knew that without a scholarship i would have to work my way through college with the help of loans, I would have tried harder to make sure i had more money for college. Knowing how you will pay for college relieves a lot of stress and frustration. Without being frustrated and stressed, you have much more time to focus on your studies. I would also inform myself that I needed to learn how to complete things on time. The worst thing I have experienced when it comes to college is procrastinating on signing up for classes on time and getting the last classes left. You will never get the schedule you want if you wait until the last minute to pick out your schedule. If I had this advice back then I would be a little bit more satisfied with my decisions right now.

If I could go back and talk to myself I would tell myself that I really need to finish my high school classess and do the best that I could do because I need to have my diploma for the future. I did not finish high school I had to get a GED when I got older and it was really hard for me because I had been out of school for so long. Finishing high school would have been the one thing that I would have stressed to myself for the betterment of my future.

While entering the time machine, I decide to take myself back to my senior year of high school. Knowing what I know now about college life and making the transition, I have plenty of advice to give to "JaCara-in-the-Past". As I meet my past self in the hallways of high school, I invite myself to sit down so that I could advise her on her future. I tell my past self that it is possible to succeed because I know that "JaCara-in-the-Past" doubted herself and didn't think she would be able to handle the college work load. Now that I, JaCara-in ?the-Present, have the opportunity to talk to her, I can also advise her that if I just try my best and continue my excellent work habits that I will be able to succeed. I tell "JaCara-in-the- Past" that the college work load is manageable if you just stay disciplined and practice good time management skills. With this new found hope, JaCara-in-the-past is much more confident and ready to transition into her college life experience!

The advice I would give myself is to take the AP English course becasue this will come in handy when you actually take the English 101 in college. You will be better prepared entering into the english class and writing essays that will count as more than 50 percent of your grade. As well as taking the AP English course, I would also tell myself to take more time out to study and have my priorities straight. Studying will get you a long way in college because that is the main thing you have to do in order to get the grades you want. High School is not at all like college is another advice i would give myself. You are basically on your own and it is your job to know when projects and homework is due. and to turn them in on time. Lastly, I would tell myself that being popular and known is not the main thing at school. The important thing is getting your education and making a life for yourself, this is a steppin stone of becoming what you want to be and making that your main reason of being at school.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to take more college courses during my senior year and over the summer. I would tell myself to take more courses so that I can transfer them and maybe have a better chance of graduating earlier. I would also tell myself the importance of networking with other people while being in college. This would be important to me because after graduation, I won't be guaranteed any job offerings. I've also discovered that it's all about who you know when it comes to finding jobs. I would tell myself to study harder and be more prepared for classes because there's only two semesters in college to recieve good grades compared to the 4 academic quarters there are in high school. I would also tell myself to learn how to manage time and have a balanced schedule for studying, homework, eating, sleeping and other activities. This would be very important because I've discovered that college students have a lot of time on their hands and that there's a lot of activities to particpate in on campus.

All students will eventually obtain information that they wish they could go back in time and tell themselves. While there is much that I would tell my younger self, there are three main points that I would share in reference to senior year of high school. These points would include work ethic, improving my mental strength, and not being afraid to speak aloud. When it comes to work ethic, I would tell my high school senior self to work very hard and work until there was nothing else to finish. In addition to that, I would tell myself to work knowing that there is a reward at the end of the academic road. My senior self would have enjoyed hearing about the improvements made to "our" mental strengths as he would know that he could become even stronger mentally; this would create an even greater sense of hope. Finally, I would tell my younger self to voice his opinions, as people will listen if innovative concepts or ideas are present. With these three points, I would lay the foundation for becoming even better than I am today as I continue to press forward for success in college and ultimately, life.

Old Dipo: How you doing young man?
Young Dipo: I'm fine. Who are you?
Old Dipo: I'm you in a few years and I want to give you some advice to make your life easier.
Young Dipo: Cool. Shoot!
Old Dipo: First off, I know you want to save the world, but you can't. Ask God how He wants to use you and follow his pace. Secondly, stop being so lazy. Do you remember the story of David and Goliath?
Young Dipo: Of course I do. We learned that story back in elementary school, bro.
Old Dipo: Well, procrastination is one of your many Goliaths. It's ok to chill with your friends, but don't expect to graduate in four years with honors if you hang out with them instead of doing your homework. There's nothing wrong with hanging out. Just get your work done first.
Young Dipo: I hear you, man.
Old Dipo: And don't rely on people too much. Even the people who love you the most cannot move some of your mountains, so always make a plan B to prevent yourself from missing out on life's goodness.
Young Dipo: Thanks!
