I really don't think anyone would feel out of place. I feel the school is well mixed. Students wear a mix of either sweats and t-shirts or skirts and boat shoes. It really depends.

There are all kinds of students on the campus. And the groups at our school reflect that. On any given day you might find a group on campus hosting an event to having a bake sale to raise funds. These groups range from Greek life, language clubs, political clubs, religous clubs, environmental groups, even anime clubs...you name it and we probably have it. The students on campus are radically different and that only enhances your educational experience and your ability to communicate and work with different kinds of people. Most of the students at the College are from South Carolina, but we have students from all over the country and our number of international students is growing. In my classes I have met people from Germany, Zimbabwe and everywhere in between. Although South Carolina is a conservative state, you will find people who are radically left and right at the college. Financially CofC has been said to resemble a country club. Although many students do come from families that are well off, it is not uncommon to find a student who works full time to pay for their college expenses.

The student body is primarily made up of students from middle to upper middle class families. It is redominantley white and there are more females than males. Students are fom a variety of places. I don't think there is an overwhelmng number of in state students; most people I know are form out of state. Students where different types of things to class. Some girls wear sweatshirts and rainbow sandals everyday, while others where citizens or seven jeans, jack rogers or bernardo sandals, and a longchamp bag. Pretty much anyone will fit in between the extremes.

Personally I think there are definitely clicks, but for the most part they are all very accepting. And I always am amazed because I feel like everyone some how knows each other. Maybe its facebook.

It is not a very racially mixed campus, mostly white. It has an extremly high gay population. Students dress casually for class, but sundresses are very common. Most CofC students are middle class South Carolina residents. Because there are so many people from South Carolina out of state students may find it difficult to fit in at first because it seems like everyone already knows eachother. Even though I am not involved in the Greek Life I suggest that both women and men become involved. It is not taken too seriously at CofC, it won't absorb all of your time, and it is an amazing way to meet people and they have the best partys.

The student body is of a wide variety. There are a lot of different groups with a lot of different kinds of people. I feel like almost anyone could come to the College of Charleston and find their own knitch of friends. I personally have all different types of friends, but I know some people who just stay in their comfort zone.

You cannot sterotype any certain place, but the majority of students here are pretty mixed socially. Lots of hippies, preps, surfers/skaters, outdoorsy people. There are way too many girls though. And they are all really pretty, but mostly everyone is super nice.

No diversity ... none at all. Typical upper middle class and upper class Christian students. Most students wear flip flops in the summer, Ugg boots and mini skirts when it's colder and Luis V. rain boots, which all match their North Face coats/jackets and book bags. Essentially, everyone looks the same. There are a few BMWs on campus and most students commute to school because living downtown is expensive.
If you're struggling financially, you may feel a little out-of-place-here. Additionally, any student that is proud of their ethnicity and that is not Caucasian and willing to conform will feel a little out of place, at least for a while too. If you don't like gay people, don't come here because a good number of the 40{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of guys here aren't interested in the 60{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of girls here.
I can't speak for the entire school atmosphere, but I haven't witnessed many liberal political ideas around campus. Everyone just goes about their business and they don't seem to care much. Since this is the south, I would classify the campus as conservative and republican, especially because many students here are so homogeneous.

Well, the student body of course it very diverse. There are always going to be those students that are super involved and always go to the events led by the school on-campus. Then there will be the students who are friends with one of them or an RA that go to occasional things when they are dragged to them. School spirit is normal I guess. I don't think the games or anything are completely packed with screaming fans, but their okay.
When you actually come here, it feels like the most people that are out-of-state are from Maryland! I've met so many people from Maryland! You'll meet several that are in-state though and quite a few that are locals.

a lot of clubs and groups for all different types of students, students are starting to come from various backgrounds and other areas
