Stereotypes....Some say there's not enough guys. This is not true. Although the male to female ratio is rather low, there are plenty of guys on campus! Charleston....deep south....students aren't very diverse! This is NOT true! There is a huge diversity of students at C of C. People are very accepting and excited to learn from different ethnicities, cultures, and knowledge bases.

A lot of the stereotypes about C of C come from the fact that Charleston is an old southern city, so many people assume it would be a very conservative southern school. Everyone also thinks that all of the students are white, in a sorority or fraternity, and wear giant pearls and polos.

A lot of people think that CofC is a party school

Superficially speaking, many of the female students are very snobby and pretentious. CofC is a party school.

The classes are really cahllenging and difficult and that everyone stresses out around exam times.

Preppy southern girls and guys. the Campus is very stuck-up and has a lot of money.

Most people think of CofC as a big party school with a lot of rich kids from up North and a whole lot of Daddy's girls.

Since C of C is not a very big, well-recognized school (but growing), some people may think that C of C students do not receive the same level of education as students attending bigger, more well-known universities(Clemson, UF, USC) do.

Before I came to CofC, I really only thought of it as a party school. I went to high school nearby, and most of my classmates had the idea that our students weren't academically competative (I had one person tell me that if he came to CofC, he'd be the smartest person here). Because we're in Charleston, one of the most stereotypical Southern cities there is, a lot of people might have the idea that the school is also like that.

Some stereotypes about CofC is that it is close to the beach and that CofC students are laid back.

Guys with boat shoes, khaki shorts who always have on a collared shirt or fraternity tshirt. Girls in lily pulizter, polos or vineyard vines with their jack rogers on their feet & pearls on their neck. Kids from wealthy new england and east coast prep schools.
