There is definitely a large population of these students, but it isn't 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body. Conn also has very down-to-earth students as well as its share of hippies and gamers.
Stephanie
They are accurate in your own mind. The truth is, Conn is what you make of it. If you have no desire to search for the little gems of New London that are outside the school, then you'll never find them and you'll be another CC student whose never left the campus
Jess
Overall, no. There is diversity on this campus, but there are a large majority of people who are classified as "bros." Academically, we are just as rigorous as any other small, liberal art school.
Maddy
To an extent, although you'll find that an outward appearance of a Conn student vastly differs from how they act towards people. We have our share of rich kids who feel entitled, but we have an equal amount of smart, talented, qualified students. It evens itself out.
Parker
Fairly, they are somewhat exaggerated but generally the student body is wealthier, and from New england.
Laura
Many students are wealthy but I think no more than any private school in the North East. Conn can at times feel like a country club, but it has been my experience with very little exploration there are a diverse group of students at Conn with Diverse interests, and although racial diversity is not at the ideal level the College has been making a great effort to improve the statistics.
Jenna
no, there is an eclectic mix of students, most of whom spend a majority of time in the library working
Catherine
no these stereotypes are not completely true, there is a wide variety of students at Connecticut College, who have a wide variety of interests and backgrounds.
beth
A large percentage of the school is wealthy and superficially so. People who do not have money do not stand out and have a bit more trouble fitting in. The school treats the international students like garbage and ignores their needs once they arrive there. The drinking scene is uncontrollable and although the administration tries, they always loose to the students. The teachers and academic programs are strong, but some teachers seem that they would rather be elsewhere.
Peter
I think so, of course there are many exceptions, as with all stereotypes
Cameron
The girls and guys stereotypes aren't accurate for all, there are plenty of exceptions to these. However, the part about the dining hall is accurate.
Harper
Some students are preppy, but people dress in all kinds of styles. I think the most inportant thing is that students are not narrow minded and students aren't defined by something as insignificant as how they dress. Preppy people hang out with non-preppy people and other "styles" hang out with other styles as well.
logan
not really. if you can think of a specific group, yeah, we got that. but you will diffinately find a popped collar or two aroun the campus
Chelsea
you deffinetly find a few of these (the stereotypes have to come from somewhere) but overall, most people hear are super down to earth and everyone is so friendly!
Lane
These stereotypes are somewhat accurate and even though there are a good amount of preppy kids but i wouldnt say it is the majority. There are a lot of people from new england but there are also students from all over the country and all over the world. There are a lot of kids from wealthy families but you wouldnt know it from talking to most of them. There are also a good amount of kids on financial aid. Most of the students are very intelligent and are truely passionate about their area of study. Some of the students didnt get accepted to ivy league school but a lot of students didnt apply and love the small school environment in which there is a community sense among students and faculty.
John
There are definitely some people here that fit those descriptions, but most of us eschew strict definitions and divisions between us. There is a large minority presence on campus, and most people come from typical, middle class backgrounds. The second stereotype has more truth to it -- Conn is really environmentally conscious, and there are a ton of groups on campus that work toward making the everyday operations of the school even more environmentally friendly.
Kate
I do agree that many upper-class students attend Conn College but isn't that true of any NESCAC or Ivy League school? We do, however, care about the world outside of our campus. For example we were 4th in recyclemania this year, many students attended the "walk for the homeless" in local new london and we have had many rallies to fight for human rights and to stop sexual abuse.
Meghan
There are definitely preppy people here, but there are also a lot of people with other styles besides preppy.
Tara
I think the money stereotype is mostly accurate because tuition is expensive. Also, most Conn students I know are liberal and supporting Barack Obama.
David
To an extent. Most students dress however they want, but it's hard to not find someone wearing these items when looking around a room full of students. And usually those that dress this way are sitting together. Also, there are nice cars around and they definitely catch the eye more than what the majority of students drive.
