Cornell University Top Questions

Even though I had never visited the campus before my first day of school, I knew this was the school for me. When a school representative talked to me about the school, she was very personable and painted a true picture of the school. The motto is "freedom with responsibility" and the campus is lively, diverse and open. From the many emails I received to the reviews from current students there, I felt comfortable and wanted at the school. When I got here, I knew I made the right choice. I been enjoying myself at this school ever since.

I decided to go to Cornell for a couple of reasons. I applied early decision, and I knew that I was going to do so in the summer before senior year. I really liked the Operations Research and Engineering major that the Engineering College had, I liked the campus, the students I met while visiting, and the entire feel of the university. My father also attended Cornell, so I have been to Ithaca many times, and fell in love with the town.

Easy. Cornell is beautiful. It has a rich history and a unique philosophy. The faculty is world-renowned. The student population is intelligent, unique, and interesting. The campus is large and beautiful. It's located far, far away from where I grew up, so it's different and exciting for me to be there. Ithaca is a great college town. Cornell supplies an experience, a look, and a feel that I couldn't get anywhere else.

I was deciding between Cornell and Columbia, the two best schools to which I was accepted. I visited both schools and carefully evaluated the pros and cons of the two schools. Ultimately, I think my campus visit was the deciding factor: I had a great visiting Cornell and I knew I'd like it there.

Mostly for the program they offered. I was very interested in the Human Biology, Health, and Society major offered by Cornell. It is a great option for pre-meds (it contains all pre-med requirements needed to apply to medical school) and for other people interested in human biology and health. For example, since it has all the pre-med requirements I guess I could be called a "pre-med" but my plans are to go into Public Health. So not everyone in the major is planning to go to med school. I also love the campus itself. It is a natural beauty and surrounded by great scenes. The location was out-of-state for me, but not too far- thus I can still get home for breaks.

It was the best school I got into and it had Archaeology as a major, which is uncommon. The diversity in studies also meant that I had the choice to pursue whatever interests I grew into once I got to school. I felt like at a smaller school, I would have less options for study, and would eventually feel trapped on campus.

I don't understand how other Ivies are often viewed as "superior" to Cornell at all. Cornell may have the highest overall acceptance rate, but due to its size, by no means are there fewer top students in its population. The students also vary heavily by college. As an engineering major, I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else. Cornell has the strongest, most diverse program of majors and by far the best facilities of any other Ivy institution.
