When choosing a College for higher education it is extremely important to consider your major. Is this school successful in preparing students for their desired career. How is the environment? safe? is it afforedable? decide if you would rathe be closer to home or not.

The advice that I would give to any student or parent finding the right college is making the most of every experience. Everything that happens good or bad at the school is something for both the parent and child to learn from. Keep copies of all paper work that is exchanged between you and the university. Visit the school during a "busy" period because you get a better feel of what the campus offers. Talk to students on the campus and get their perspective on ways where you can always be prepared.
Courtney
Look for a school that truly fits you and what you are looking for when it comes to campus size, classroom size, cost and geographical location.

Research the college or university as much as possible. Do college tours with your parents so that if you do deciede to go to that particular school, they will have a feel of your safety and your success academically. Go with your gut instinct, if you feel like "this is the school for me", dont second guest yourself.

Be open and be honest. It's just that simple. If you can focus, take the risk of high debt, and understand that you may loose on your investment then by all means attend your "Dream School" with the $300,000 price tag. However, if you understand that the name or brand of the school isn't the major focus and you are willing to give 110{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} reguardless of the institution, then chose a school where you can comfortably live and live stress free. School is a hassle and it truly isn't for everyone, especially not for the faint at heart.

Do your research, visit all the schools you are interested, and make a list of the things that you would like to get out of your college experience and environmnet, and then go from there! GOOD LUCK!
Gerald
Go to a school that you will really enjoy for yourself because going for the wrong reasons will cost alot in the long run.
Jessica
Pick a major that you really want to succeed in. Take a trip to visit the school. Meet your possible advisor. Pick a college that fits the size you want, the price that you want, and in the location that you want.

Speaking as a student to a student, I would strongly urge that student to visit the campus twice before making decision. New student orientation, where they do all the special things for the prospective students, is a trip that most incoming students should make. Enjoy it because there will not be many events planned in your honor in the near future. Make the second trip unofficial a surprise visit. Visit your advisors/administrators and take in the campus environment. Really consider if you could see yourself thriving at that institution. Once you?ve assessed all the schools you?re considering then finalize your decision.
Speaking from a father?s perspective (I have a beautiful daughter that I hope to see off to college one day) and as a current student I would remind parents sending their child off to school that the choice of the right college is ultimately the student?s decision. Trust that the morals and values that have been instilled in them will guide them to that happy ending that you want for them. You only want the best but you don?t want to be on the wrong end of a "you ruined my life" argument.
Danielle
Choice the college that you would feel comfortable in. A place where you can be yourself and achieve your goals.

First make sure that the school has what you want to study, second make sure that you visit the school so you know the environment, third talk to someone who is attending and has attended the school so you know what to prepare for when you get there, fourth compare the cost to other schools because some times less cost may mean a better learning enviornment and experience.

The advice that I would give parents and/or students about finding the right college would be first thing first, make sure you want to go to college because college isn't for everyone. Look up schools that interests you and that offer your intended major, and if possible tour the campus. If you do plan on going to college make sure you find a college that suits you, because if you don't like the environment, then you're not going to want to be there. The advice I would give on making the most of the college experience would be to get involved. Join clubs or organizations that interest you. Attend the school events, make friends and to have fun, but stay focused.
Gregory
To do extensive research on a school before going.

I would tell them that its in your best interest to spend a couple days around the campus, ask a lot of questions to staff and especially to students, and get a precise ballpark of how much finacial aid can be offered. You also want to attend a University where you can see room for change and expression of ones self.
Terrela
I would tell students to stay true to who they are and their standards that their parents instilled in them. No matter what college they decide to attend (i.e a party school, a liberal college, or a top of the line college) to stay focus and to not allow the type of environment that they maybe in, to sway what they are there for. Your college years can be some of your best years of your life or it can be a nightmare, its all up to you. Learn to manage your time well and you will be successful.

ALWAYS GO TO THECOLLEGE FIRST AND SEE HOW WOULD YOU FEEL COMING HERE
