Illinois Institute of Technology Top Questions

What should every freshman at Illinois Institute of Technology know before they start?

Ryan

Already, after my first semester, I am begining to learn what I am going to be doing after college. At IIT they begin to inform the students early on of what professionals in their major usually do once they graduate. I take this as a great advanatage, to know what I want to do after college and have the abition to achieve all that I set out to. I have begun setting goals for my life and I plan to follow through on them all. It is exciting to me to be now thinking past college and onto what challenges come in my path in the future.

Kendra Parker Campus Discovery Scholarship January 04, 2011 I have been attending Miami Dade College (MDC) since the Fall of 2008. My attendance at MDC has really been an eye opener for me. Every school (in my opinion) has teachers who are great and then some teachers who aren’t so great. This is where I learned that not all professors can teach. Just because someone has a Ph.D (in whatever subject) doesn’t mean they have the ability to teach that subject to others. Through these professors I have learned a very precious lesson: I, no matter how great my professor may or may not be, need to take the responsibility and reinforce what was said to me in class. Despite that, attending Miami Dade College has been a wonderful and valuable experience. I met some incredible people, who have taught me some incredible things; but what has really made me happy about attending this school is that, this is where I first started getting involved in helping other people and the community.

I have gotten a vast amount of knowledge and experience that is directly applicable to my course of study and intended career. I have no doubt that I am prepared to meet whatever career challenges I may encounter, and if I do not already possess the requisite knowledge to complete a task, I know that I can obtain it. The prestige of my school makes the degree that I am earning the key to unlocking job opportunities that I have been unable to be considered for in the past. The people that I have had the privelege of meeting: staff, students, alumni, and guests have broadened my outlook and I am a better rounded individual for having interacted with them.

It was only recently that I discovered the impact that my parent's divorce had on me. I was nine when it happened and so I was uprooted from my school in the 4th grade and the education that I was being so positively pushed in, was halted. It was not until recently as I finally got into the University I have been dreaming of, that I realized how much of my potential had been stifled. Not because people did notcare but because they did not know how to reach in and help me discover it. My college experience has helped me uncover that masked potential I have hidden inside of me, that untapped talent that is waiting to burst out of my fingertips. It has given me the opportunity to really shine and discover not just who I am, but who I want to be. And it has given me tools to make that person into a reality. I believe the habits I develop at school will leave with me and I want to make sure it continues to be the most valuable experience I can make it be. I dont want to miss any of my potential.

I have learnt be to more career oriented to stand out in a competitive school.. and to be more than satisfied with what you are provided with, independent and social! Participating on campus and making new friends has been an important asset I learnt and adjusting to live on campus with new roommates made me a complete person. I love being a part of IIT which has made me a better person today and I will cherish my memories always!

IIT is one of the best schools for engineering in the Midwest, not because of it's place and history in Chicago but because of teachers that care about the students and their dedication to help the students learn and understand the material for example on one of my midterms i was stuck on a problem in physics at 3am i email the teacher and within 10min i got an answer, that how dedicated they are to the student not like some big university were the professes wont talk to you in or out of class . This school has helped me find scholarships and find ways to increase my fictional aid, they helped my find my first internship and are coaching my get a very good job. my experience with the students is good and very diverse. they have projects were you are placed in teams with other students from other field to build or invent new products "very interesting and a great time"

My college experience has matured me both mentally and socially. I have learned a lot in my classes that will benefit me in my career field as well as in life as a whole. Outside the classroom I have also learned many lessons that have made me into a more responsible and independent adult. My athletic and extracurricular involvements have afforded me great friendships and personal growth opportunties that I believe are invaluable. Living in the dorms, I have experienced a helpful transition from life at home to life in the "real world" that would be much more difficult to get without living on campus. I have been able to interact with foreign students and have learned much about different cultures and how they view ours. My leadership qualities have been strengthened and encouraged by professors and coaches, as well as peers. Overall, I have seen myself grow immensly and know that my future looks much brighter after my college experience.

Right now I am in a four year and I love it! I love the wide variety of people and amazing professors that change your outlook on topics such as abortion and gay marriage. I tranfered rooms in the dorms because of personal issues with the roommate and that taught me to move on and be the bigger person becuase some people will never change. I am more open than I was before because everyone is beautiful and we all come with baggage. We all just need to be accepted. I have also learned that family is important and sticking together in what improves our world. I have learned that college is a scary place. A freshman, Dwight Clark, died the first week of school and it hit hard. The world is scary so we need to prepare ourselves because no one else will. We need to be kind to everyone because you never know if it will be the last time you see them. And we need to be open to new ideas because our world is changing and we will never live in harmony unless people try to see other worlds.

I have become a lot more responsible and attentive. Getting an education is the most important thing someone should do in their life. Getting an education will give you so much more opportunities in life and better opportunities for their children. A higher education helps a person grow and mature, taking responsibily and better prepare them for the future in any career.
