I am deeply interested in to attending IIT for the reason that they offer a excellent IT program. I have been studying computer for 3 years in highschool and I am deeply interest into expanding that knowledge in to another level by attending IIT.

Illinois Institute of Technology is an attractive option to me because of its rigorous academic opportunities, as well as its campus location.

The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) stands as a beacon of innovation and academic excellence in the heart of Chicago. From its distinguished faculty to its cutting-edge research facilities, IIT offers a transformative educational experience.
One of the most striking aspects of IIT is its commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Whether it's through its renowned Armour College of Engineering or its acclaimed Institute of Design, students have the opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary projects that prepare them for the complexities of the modern world.
Furthermore, IIT's urban campus provides a dynamic backdrop for learning. Surrounded by the vibrant culture and industry of Chicago, students are immersed in a rich environment that serves as both a classroom and a playground for exploration.
The emphasis on experiential learning sets IIT apart. Through co-op programs, internships, and hands-on projects, students gain invaluable real-world experience that complements their academic studies. This practical approach equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in their chosen fields.
Lastly, IIT prides itself on its diverse and inclusive community. With students and faculty from all corners of the globe, the campus is a melting pot of perspectives and ideas. This diversity enriches the educational experience and prepares students to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
In summary, the Illinois Institute of Technology is a powerhouse of innovation, offering a holistic education that combines academic rigor with real-world application. With its interdisciplinary focus, urban campus, experiential learning opportunities, and commitment to diversity, IIT prepares students to lead and succeed in the ever-evolving landscape of the 21st century.

Illinois Tech is without a doubt where I belong. If you are good at what you do, know what you want to major in, and want a clear path to a career, go to IIT. The campus is ten minutes from downtown Chicago and many people have a work hard play hard mentality.
Nathan
Overall a decent tech school. Buildings can be updated as most are really old, but they are functional. Campus has a lot of resources for students to use such as an idea shop that has laser cutters and 3D printers. Somewhat commuter friendly as there are two train lines that are right by the campus. While on campus housing is not that great, the proximity to downtown Chicago makes up for that.

Let me start out by saying that my education here was really good - the graduate programs are generally well respected and rigorous. The professors are very smart and experts in their field of work. The school has excellent public transportation, and good facilities on campus. I wish there was a better neighborhood infrastructure - more bars, restaurants and shops. However, the food isn't the best and the tuition is incredibly high. But, if you are interested in school for school, IIT is an amazingly good choice.

This had to be the absolute WORST college experience I have ever endured. IIT is one of the most racist, classist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic schools in Chicago in my opinion and experience. IIT is a perfect example of "diversity and inclusion" being used as a selling point to lure in BIPOC students from underprivileged backgrounds, so they will take out an egregious amount of loans to pay for this HELLA inflated cost of schooling (50K/year JUST FOR TUITION), when behind closed doors, they promote racial divide by fearmongering out-of-state students that black and Latin neighborhoods are "dangerous" (yes, the whole "don't go past 35th" is STILL being drilled into students' heads). This issue only amplifies within the SGA leadership and administration who make light (and even DEFENDS) issues such as racism or homophobia from students (*cough *cough Dean Katherine Stetz). As a black, queer non-binary student from an underprivileged background, I have endured every bit of the evils of this "place of learning". To any student from poverty-stricken backgrounds wishing to get into the STEM field, don't walk away from this place; RUN. Run far away from it. UIC or UIUC has better STEM programs for hella cheaper than here.

IIT is a somewhat typical tech based college, with a campus that isn't very aesthetically pleasing. Of course, that doesn't bother those interested in this school, where the greek life and extracurriculars may be lacking, it is made up many times over by the academic opportunities and excellent staff. This school is especially great if pursuing a degree that involves participation in research, as there is no shortage to be found here!
Jacob
Campus full of smart people (both students and teachers) in their fields but it doesn't provide great direct support for actual learning. The personal growth that develops while studying at IIT comes the individual student's own hard work and struggle, not the campus facilities.
Johnathan
I’m at the point in my career in which I want to grow more as a leader and innovator in the business realm. So that I can continue to provide value and be an asset to Medtronic as an Executive Vice President of Sales. I chose this program because I want the hands-on learning to help me succeed in complex business challenges that I may encounter daily. With my diverse background and perspective, I can attribute my partnership, experience and perspective to my peers, classmates and colleagues. I am excited for this new challenge and looking forward to this journey with IIT.
Thank you,
Johnathan Prunty

At first glance, the school is nothing to brag about compared to other tech schools outside the city; but the school has every promising academics and career options that take place within the school year. As a freshman, I already have plans to contribute to organizations with the schools and add something to internships to expand on my knowledge.

In my honest opinion, the Illinois Institute of Technology has everything that a studious and serious student needs and wants in an academic institution. The classes are very difficult there, no matter what major you are doing. But they do want to prepare you for the real world, which is why they make them very rigorous. The students, faculty, and staff are all very generous and helpful, so there is not really much of a reason for you to feel like you are lost. The professors are most likely, if not always, available and can explain things more thoroughly needed than what time in class or lectures allow. There's many connections and resources students are able to have and use in order to create am ideal study environment. Eventually, you do connect with students of your own major and other majors. You can also get exposed to the diversity that exists in the campus since the university is also an international school. Most of the school is dominated by graduate students than undergraduate students, so that's more of an insight towards what the environment of the student ratio may be in the school. There's Greek Life as well, but not a lot of fraternities or sororities that exist within it. Basically, it is not a "party" school. Everything is taken seriously here and it is very competitive in the fields of STEM. You can get all the materials you need for your classes, although bookstores in general at university campuses can always be a bit more expensive than expected. It's campus is small in comparison to other nearby schools like the University of Chicago and UIC. After all, I just liked the energy and the education that is being taught at the school, which reflected more on the type of student that I am. But there is still some improvements that can be made to ensure better and comfortable academic experiences since the classes can get difficult at times.

Many people love their undergrad colleges, but I don't share the sentiment. Very little school spirit or sense of pride here. Bigotry on behalf of the student body is a factor into why I am glad I'm leaving soon. Teachers are arrogant and self-centered. Aside from that, the departments that are supposed to help you leave it up to you to research and fix every problem often making many phone calls to multiple departments, or waiting in line for an hour to get a simple question answered. Everything here is about surviving and getting the grade you need. What a boring dystopia. Professors are distant and don't care much about teaching, and have fun getting timely feedback if you do decide to go here. Profs would rather research and remain out of touch with the needs of their students than change their ways. Expensive and disgusting food with few healthy options. Overpriced, mandatory dorms. Administration doesn't take complaints they've had for years very seriously, they just want your money. The students act a lot like middle schoolers and everyone here's on Adderall. We pay this amount of money to be alone and teach ourselves because we were sold this college by lies. The architecture department is well-funded, and their students give the tours, but don't count your chickens on getting academic support if you're applying to any other major. About to graduate after a few miserable years, and I couldn't be more excited to leave. This school protects itself and itself only with little empathy or time left over for the students.

I like studying in Illinois institute f technology.
John
IIT is a good school overall. The campus life is honestly trash, but I am able to find my way around and meet good friends. The academics are good however, there are a handful of professors that are hard to understand and act like they don't want to be here.
Tuition goes up every year and the campus-life/academics do not seem to improve. The only thing that gets better is the faculties salary. If there is one thing I do like about IIT is the innovation when it comes to green energy. A lot of building on campus have solar panels and IIT is still looking to expand.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Illinois Institute of Technology is 57%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Because this question begs an honest answer, i will say that IIT offered me not much in the department of career. I am an architecture major, and the school spends most of its time teaching about concepts and art, and up until recently, has said little about actual construction or the practical application of knowledge. Although the school does an excellent job of confering theoretical knowledge, it is lacking in the practical sense. it encourages students to design impractical, inefficient, expensive buildings that could not exist in real life because of things like gravity. The school, however, does have its strengths. It teaches a method of thinking- a way to approach problems that could otherwise be intimidating or impossible. I have learned how to study problems in more detail to sometimes find better, less obvious solutions. The final thing i have gotten out of this college is a close network of friends and classmates who all help eachother with difficult projects and homework, as well as provide a nice social circle to spend time with and bond with in free time.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Many students prefer to isolate themselves. It is very difficult to bring people out of their shells. This fact is best obverved on weekends. Instead of a social and bustling campus, the campus is very quiet except for the greek community. Actually, without the greek community, the campus would be completely dead, always. The Greeks are very involved and are in many leadership roles in every major organization on campus.
The commitment to education is a plus; every single class is very competitive. Also the fact that you are provided with opportunities to work on projects with people from different majors is a great experience that teaches team work and somewhat simulates a real world professional experience.
Somebody that is very smart and loves technology would favor this school. Since the community isn't that big, many students will have small groups of friends. Also somebody who would wants to focus on getting their degree and not really doing any nonsense activities such as drinking or doing drugs would like this school.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about Illinois Institute of Technology is the deteriorating classrooms and buildings. There are several academic buildings that are in need of a restoration. There are cracks in the ceiling that leak water. However plans are being made to restore the buildings during the summer, when classes are out.
The size of IIT is perfect- it's not so small that you recognize everyone, but it's small enough that you see friends when you're walking down the street. The size also helps because it seems like faculty really cares about you and knows you by name- unlike big state schools where you'd be just a tiny unforgotten piece in a huge system.
I love all of my classes! IIT is one of the nation's top architecture schools, and it's obvious why-- I'm receiving a great education and will be prepared to enter the architectural field when I graduate. Another thing I love is that you know everyone at school here is intelligent, and it can be much more enjoyable to have conversations with bright people.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
IIT offers a lot of social activities for its students- they're always selling discount tickets to musicals, sporting events, and movies in the city. One of the huge deciding factors in whether I came to IIT was its location- and I couldn't have asked for a better one! It hardly takes any time at all to get into the city, so if I want to shop or look at architecture or just hang out, it's very accessible by train: we have to train stops on campus.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
Every now and then you might find people that fit the stereotypes, but that's bound to happen. I find it easy to make friends with people, hang out, and go to parties.
It depends in which direction you walk. Walking west brings you into Bridgeport, a developing neighborhood with small local businesses and restaurants as well as many residences. Bridgeport is home to Cellular Field. Many IIT students live in Bridgeport due to the low rent. Walking south is not recommended as it's not a great part of town. However, the police station is south so it is not entirely unsafe. There are many fast food restaurants south of campus. Walking west brings you to the Illinois College of Optometry, Bronzeville, and a large residential area. Walk a bit further and you will be at beautiful lake Michigan! Walking north brings you closer to downtown.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
IIT students are typically known as being nerds. Hard working, but somewhat reclusive and perhaps even socially incompetent. Many people will say they are disappointed with the social scene, and that the school is known to empty out during breaks due to so many students fleeing to the suburbs where they are from. In reality, there are a lot of opportunities to socialize and fun to be had. There are no major barriers to creating a student organization, and chances are one already exists for any given interest. Various groups on campus put on events both on campus and off campus that can be enjoyed by everyone. Still, it is true that IIT students are very hard working and most people will be unwilling to blow off their commitments in favor of having a good time. In recent years the school has been choosing more well-rounded students that more successfully have a healthy balance between work and fun.
Spots are not a very important part of the IIT experience. Sometimes varsity volleyball, soccer, and baseball games are advertised on campus and students who attend can often get some free IIT swag. Athletes at IIT blend in very well. It's possible to join some of the sports teams without being offered a scholarship, so it doesn't really have the exclusivity factor that some other schools may experience. In addition to varsity sports, many IIT students will participate in some club or intermural sport. Besides the official teams, other club sports such as indoor soccer, cricket, badminton, bowling, and tennis see a lot of participation.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
100% of students attending Illinois Institute of Technology receive some sort of financial aid.
32% were awarded federal grants.47%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
