You have your whole life ahead of you. Have fun and enjoy this exciting experience, but make wise decisions. Take every opportunity to learn as much as you can, not just from your studies, but also from the diverse classmates, professors, co-workers, roommates that you will cross paths with on your education journey. Describe the students at your school.
My classmates are unique and willing to help me with problems that I may have. They are friendly and are willing to work together when group projects are assigned. Because I want to be a teacher, most of my classmates are female, but there are the occassional males present in class. I really like the classmates that I have come to know.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
I don't think I brag much about my school. The quad is beautiful nearly year round, peaking in the fall when the leaves change colors. I like that the faculty members of my major are very involved in our success as students, but I do not feel that is how it is with all majors.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Stereotype: Most of the students are white and came here because they didn't get in to other schools such as U of I or Marquette. This is partially true; the school does seem to be predominately white, but there are all types of people here. Also, some people did not make it into those schools that are viewed with higher status, so they chose ISU, but there are others who chose ISU for their programs or simply because they really like it here. There are a lot of people here who are extremely smart and dedicated.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
There are so many great aspects of Illinois State! I absolutely love it here. I thought it would be a huge adjustment coming to such a large school because I came from a very small town where I graduated with only 37 people in my class. ISU is large, but the student body is so unified and the campus really has that hometown feel that I love. It makes me feel like I belong, and I absolutely love the amount of redbird spirit that we have here. The atmosphere surrounding the university is just right. It has that "college town" atmosphere with plenty of places to eat, little shops, a CVS, book stores, or anything else you might need right within walking distance. Even better, if it isn't within walking distance (like Wal-Mart), the city buses are free for students! Academically, it is also great because there are resources for anything and everything you might need, our library is great, and if someone cannot help you, he or she will help you find the person who can!

What are the academics like at your school?
The academics here at ISU is great. Since some of the classroom sizes are small the professors are able to know you by your name, and some professors make that their goal. My major is Broadcast Journalism and the School of Communication is a great department the staffs here do all they can to make their students successful. They are excellent teachers and teach you all they can, so you feel confident when you leave to graduate and enter the real world. They prepare you for that.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I am currently in S.S.I.D and the Chi Omega Sorority on campus. S.S.I.D is Students Serving Individuals with Disabilities. I have been able to become aware of various groups from posters around campus or e-mails that I will receive. On campus, there are so many different options for clubs you can be involved with. We also have many informational guest speakers come to school, and many popular artists come to the concert arena right by school. If you are interested in getting involved in something that appeals to you, you will have no problem finding a club or starting a club on campus to fit your needs.

Tell us about the sports scene on campus.
There are quite a few sports offered at ISU. There is football, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, basketball, swimming, and much much more! However, I personally am not a sports maniac, so I do not know much more than what is offered... I have only gone to one football game, one basketball game, and one gymnastics meet since I have been here.
If you have questions, I am sure I can find out for you :-)
