The best thing about iup is that it is a very pretty college that is moderately spread out to give it a nice feel.

Stephanie

IUP is surrounded by a small college town, but the campus itself has enough entertainment that you would never really be board. The only thing that I could complain is that the food places nearby need to stay open past 11:00 pm. Also, the mall is pathetic. I like the size of the campus. It isn't too big, but not even close to being a small school. I think that if anyone were to attend IUP they should defidently get involved with a club, team, or some sort of organization. There are so many groups on the campus. I found it better to meet people and have better connections within the campus by joining a sorrority.

Reese

I don't like the direction the classes are heading, too many students and not enough teachers.

Tami

I do not attend the main campus so I cannot tell you about campus life. As far as the organization, I have not had too many difficulties in dealing with issues. When I went to Penn State I had a few administrative challenges because of the size and bureaucracy.

The best thing about IUP is all the school spirit we have, it makes you so proud to be apart of IUP. The size is just right, there is enough people to meet, but I never feel to over crowded. The best part is IUP is always moving forward and trying to make IUP an even better college. I will never forget all the IUP football games my freshman year, with the new mascot the CRIMSON HAWK!

To me IUP is the perfect size school. There are I think approximately 14,000 students but the class sizes are still small. The professors get to know you as a student and will usually go out of their way to help you if you have a problem. One thing that really surprised me about IUP is the students. There are students from all over the world at IUP. I guess this surprised me because I grew up near IUP and it's hard to believe that people from all over have heard of it and selected IUP out of all the colleges. I think Indiana is a pretty nice college town. There are many restaurants to choose from (especially on Philly street). The mall however, is not that great but if you have a car there are some pretty good malls within an hour. There is always something going on in the surrounding areas so you can keep busy if you want to. Lastly, I think IUP could really improve on the school pride. I have gone to a few basketball games and sometimes the gym is empty. It's kind of disappointing. I really enjoy going to the football games. Since I came to IUP the team has been very good so it is fun to watch. I would encourage anyone coming to IUP to at least try going to some sporting events. They really can be a lot of fun!

IUP is great. The size is great, the classroom size is great, and even the people there are great. When I tell people I attend IUP, most tell me that I must party a lot because it is known for being a big party school. In reality, isnt every college or university a party school if it has students on campus who have that kind of attitude? Just my opinion. While I am on campus I spend most of my time probably in the dining hall. Haha. I like to meet my friends there, and we can sit there for a few hours and chat while eating! How can you pass that up? I believe that IUP is a college town. Other than the school, there really isnt too much to do unless you drive to Pittsburgh.

Again, I was in the Safety Science cohort program. Only saw my classmates during the summer for one week. We were all full-time working professionals, established in our careers. But the networking and information sharing among us was priceless.

One of the best things about campus is the Oak Grove. On a nice sunny day it's the perfect place to hang out with friends or do some work. Campus is not too big and not too small but right. There are plenty of dining options on campus but also a variety of places to choose off campus as well, which are either in walking distance or a short ride on the bus (which you don't have to pay to ride). Something unusual about IUP was the whole debate over the mascot: up until recently we were the Indians and for a long time we had an Indian mascot, but in hopes of not offending Native Americans they kept the Indian name and got a bear mascot named Cherokee. Eventually we were forced to change our name and mascot (which I fully supported the idea because it was demeaning), a "brilliant" board of people decided that we should be the Crimson Hawks, and of course one soul had to look that name up on Google and discover that our sports teams were named after a cartoon porn star. So, yes, the Crimson Hawks are named after porn (needless the say that though our symbol is a hawk I try to avoid buying anything with the symbol or the name).

I really like the size of IUP. The class sizes usually aren't terriably big and you are comfortable enough to approach your professor with questions or if you need help. People don't think that IUP is a good school but the truth is that it has some really good programs of study and lots of scholarly people there to assist you anytime you need them.
