The academics are challenging, but not overly so. I am academically stimulated in my classes.

The academics here are very rigorous however, it is very doable to have classes and also have a life outside of class.
Erika
The academics are definitely challenging, but you learn so much, so it is very rewarding. I love that at times I get the chance to take classes outside of my major (or as we call it POE) which challenge the way I think about things and also give me the chance to become a well rounded person.

Juniata's science program is well-known and difficult. In addition, students here have a heavy courseload compared to many other liberal arts colleges. Unlike at many other schools, students seem to place a priority on studying over partying. Like any liberal arts education, you are required to take a variety of classes, which serve to make you a more well-rounded person overall.

Usually a fairly high workload and good teachers. Most teachers here care deeply about their subjects. These aren't giant-school PhD's who only care about research. Some teachers are not so good, some mediocre, most good, a few truly spectacular.

In such a small school, professors generally know who you are and are very friendly. The smaller classes put a lot of value in participation. As a liberal arts school, a variety of classes are required, so the school is best for people interested in learning more than just their major.

Juniata is mainly known as that science school. Even though science is greatly emphasized here, I believe that the rest of our majors are given just as much attention as well. The classes are small so I can receive individual help if I do not understand what is going on in class. Professors have set office hours, but most of the time, my professors have told me I could drop by any time i wanted to if I needed help.
When I was a freshmen, I was shocked at the amount of in class participation I had to do. In high school, my grades was never dependent on class participation. Now however, 20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my grade in nearly all my classes depend on my participation. I absolutely hated this at first. But now that I am a sophomore this year, I realized I really enjoy the participation in class. Participating helps my better understand the topics and develop new ideas on what we're talking about. For the people that are scared to participate, don't worry-the students and professors are almost 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} very welcoming of your opinions and views.
I am an IT major and I love my department. I teach the required freshmen course IA. I really like being bale to take what I learn from class and actually apply it to students I teach if I find the opportunity.
Additionally, a lot of professors live a minute off campus. The head of the IT department and IA is Dr. Rhodes. Before my IA job started, he had all the employees over for a barbeque followed by an orientation for the job. How many professors at other schools would invite you over for a barbeque?
Overall, there is so much to talk about academically at Juniata. Every aspect is amazing in its own way!

This school has a great academic program. I am majoring in Wildlife Conservation with a secondary emphasis in psychology. I am currently taking classes in a wide range of fields, including physics, chemistry, film, and psychology. Due to the typically small class size, it is very easy to contact professors. All of your professors will typically know your name and contact you on a regular basis. It is very easy to get to know your professors well here. It is required for you to take classes in a variety of fields, which doesn't bother me, since I have a wide field of interests. The typical requirements are 6 credits each in fine arts, international, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences fields, as well as an interdisciplinary curriculum and cultural analysis class. There are also quantitative and writing requirements. There are a couple of required freshman writing and technology classes that many students find unnecessary, but they are mostly painless. The education here is mainly geared towards learning for the sake of it, but there is plenty of job help to be found, although you may have to seek it out. This school is largely know for its biology program, but nearly every program here is excellent. The academic opportunities are excellent overall.
