I think Juniata college is a good school. Its a private liberal arts college. The town that it is located in is a very old and quiet town. The historical parts of Huntingdon are very beautiful. Since we are located near the mountains winter does come a lot faster and its a lot more windy but thats not a big deal because classes are fairly close to where your staying on campus.

I really enjoy Juniata College in general. The campus is rather small, so you don't have to walk very far to get from one building to the next for each class. It's in a small town filled with all sorts of shops and places to go, as well as lots of friendly people. The dorms are very clean, albeit a bit small, but they're pretty nice in general. Also, it's a liberal arts college, so it's very focused on the individual students and their needs. Overall, nice campus, nice people, great food; amazing college.

For someone who prioritizes academics, Juniata College is the place to be. You may find that there is not much to do around Huntingdon, but I found a great group of people who I have become so close with in just four months. Together, we find things to do outside studying and I have made so many great memories. State college is only 40 minutes away, which is where my friends and I spend many of our weekends at. I do not regret my decision whatsoever.

Overall, I really like this school! The professors are amazing and easy to access, and the academics really push students to learn as much as possible.
However, there has been a major push to get rid of the arts here. So if you are looking for a school where you can do theatre productions, or participate in an arts related field of study (art, theatre, music, etc), this is not the place for you. It is the same thing with languages, as the current full offering is only Spanish. There is one beginner Chinese course that lasts part of a semester. French and German are currently phasing out older students, but are offering no intro level courses.
As far as disability services, I would rate a zero. A lot of what I was promised on arrival has not happened and I am currently having issues as I write this with that department. There has been a questionable comment made towards me by the head of that department, and overall they push for as few accommodations as possible.
With that being said, talk to professors about accommodations. They will often help fight for you and will help you where disability services will not, at least that is what the History department has done for me! I have also worked with the president of the college as well as facilities to improve campus accessibility when disability services refused to help. So there are others on campus willing to help you, just reach out!

This college is an amazing choice if you want to meet people from everywhere. The way that the people of the college have came together due tp COVID has helped us to be able to continue our education in person. THe feeling of unity is very much evident both on and off campus.

It is amazing! Very community based and welcoming. They have something for everyone. Academics and classes are spectacular. Lots of awesome traditions that leave something for students to be excited about. Cares about mental and physical health along with academics.

I just completed 4 years at Juniata College. Overall, the class size is good, with around 30 students in a classroom. It's super easy to reach out to the professors during class and even outside of classes. The campus food is just ok, they are improving though. However, there is a BIG problem that is happening for international students. JC introduces itself as no racism, but there are so many racist people, even some professors, and staff. They don't care about what international students say and the staff at JC are bad. They are extremely racist! If something happens to an international student and it's because of them. They will blame it on the international student. If you are an international student, please reconsider! The image that JC has built is just fake. I don't understand! Racisms happen everywhere at school.

I love Juniata! The class sizes can run large and disability services leave something to be desired, but those are my only complaints. The people are very helpful, and professors are always around. They are even willing to meet outside of their office hours if your class schedule conflicts, which is not often the case at other institutions. My advisors, students here have two, are helpful and genuinely concerned about my progress. Finally, there are a large number of study abroad programs to choose from, which is amazing for me as I love to travel! Plus, study abroad is affordable as it is the same price as tuition. I am glad I chose Juniata!

Juniata College is like home to me. I believe that this is the best place for me to succeed academically and personally. There are so many chances for opportunities and experiences at Juniata. The whole campus is friendly. The professors are amazing and always willing to meet even if it has to be outside of office hours and are open to conversation. Overall Juniata is one of the best higher educational facilities that anyone can attend. I truly love the campus and the whole atmosphere. The college also helps with transitioning from high school to the college level. Definitely my best choice and recommendation for anyone looking for a college to attend.

I love it. I've met great people here and have enjoyed the rigor of the classes.

Juniata College is an absolutely exceptional school for academics and student life. The class sizes are small and the professors genuinely care about students. We feel safe enough to leave our bags at the door to the cafeteria. Neither I nor any of my friends have never locked the door to our dorms and it hasn't been a problem or made us worry once. There are plenty of clubs to join with no Greek life because the school thinks that they encourage partying too much. There are still parties on campus on the weekends, but these are generally held at a distant part of campus so that students who do not wish to participate will not have to deal with the loud noise and intoxicated peers. Overall this is a school with strong morals and high expectations for its students while also not expecting them not to act like young adults who can enjoy alcohol responsibly.
Emily
Juniata's environment is very unique and is perfect for some people but doesn't meet everyone's needs. It is a small, close-knit campus, but close-knit in the sense that there are lots of cliques. The academics and study abroad opportunities are honestly what makes it better than competing Liberal Art Colleges, and the professors are absolutely phenomenal. The administration has taken away a lot of things, such as off-campus housing, over the past year, and more often than not, their motive for decision-making is financial. The campus is quite beautiful, with lots of outdoor activities to participate in when the weather is nice, but what makes it more unique is the dynamic between the college and the town that it's located in. Huntingdon, PA is a very conservative and "in the middle of nowhere" kind of town, while Juniata is a college that attracts both liberal, conservative and "in the middle" students. This creates a very interesting and sometimes frustrating social atmosphere for the students, especially in such a sensitive and ever-changing period of time.
Alanna
Juniata College is an extremely small college. It is smaller than my high school. There are about 400 students per class. It is located in Middle of Nowhere, PA surrounded by farms and mountains. The fanciest place to eat in town is at Hoss's Steakhouse (which doesn't serve alcohol so don't go there for your 21st birthday.... not as fun as I would have hoped...) However, there is a Walmart, Weis, McDonalds (just renovated very nice), Wendys, Taco Bell, Burger King (just built next to Walmart), and many family diners. So if you're a city slicker it's going to be a huge adjustment for you. There are many places to go hiking and experience nature. But enough about the town lets talk about the school.
Juniata College has the friendliest and most down to earth students and professors that I have ever met. The professors really care about your well-being and want you to learn the material. When something happens in the country or the world (ex: mass shootings, unwanted presidents, etc...) the professors take the time to have an open discussion in class to address any questions or comments students have and make sure all their students are emotionally well. Also, if you're in the environmental science or wildlife majors, Juniata has a field station on Raystown Lake where you can take classes, conduct research, embrace the outdoors because it is further into Nowhere, PA (15 students per semester). The class sizes here aren't that bad either. The largest class sizes you will have will be your freshman intro classes like Biology and Chemistry (maybe like 50-75 students?? No more than that). In my upper level class there are 7 students (including me, I'm a senior environmental science major btw).
Now the food. I will be honest. It's not the best, but it's doable. We have many coffee stands in different buildings. We only have 1 dining hall, but some of the coffee stands serve breakfast and lunch. The dining hall just got renovated and we have a new vendor, so they're trying. Some days the food is delicious I'm about to gain the freshman 50, and some days you might want to starve (I'm a picky eater so this may not help so much, but I do like meat and it's deliciousness depends on the kind). But there is a variety of things served on the menu (burgers, pizza, deli, salad & soup bar, etc...)
Okay so housing, not the best, but it's what you make it. You have to share a room with at least 1 other person in all dorms except for 1 (mainly juniors and seniors live in it). We don't have A/C in all buildings and all dorms have community bathrooms except for 2 buildings. But, our facilities staff are the best! I mean they are on it, I am a germophobe and those bathrooms are pretty darn clean. I mean still wear your shower shoes, put toilet paper on the toilet seats, and don't eat food off the floor.
If Juniata excels at anything, they excel at having a ton of extracurricular activities. We don't have a greek life, but we have mannnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyy clubs, you name it. We have clubs ranging from academics to charity to video games to biking to Pokemon to archery to hunting. Honestly, you name it we probably have it. There are also many research opportunities in numerous majors (however we call them Programs of Emphasis). I personally did research on box turtles (recommended only for those that can handle being peed on and hissed at- 12/10 very sassy).
Now time for what you've all been waiting for....*drum roll*...... Night Life! I personally am not involved in a lot of partaying (if that's how the cool kids say it), but from people that do they say it's good. People usually only go out on the weekends not so much during the week. For those 21 years old, there is a bar that has a karaoke night, very entertaining. For those who do not partake in those types of festivities, there are dry events held by Res Life and other clubs. There's movie nights in the pool, stress busters during midterms and finals, trivia nights (Disney jeopardy was harder than you think, and I consider myself the experts of the experts), and other things. There is a nerf club on Saturdays in the larger academic building, it gets pretty intense. One time I walked in the building and was forced to put my hands up when they realized I was a "civilian" and let me go.
Overall Juniata is a great school, and you should at least check it out. We have a diverse group of students (surprisingly a lot of international students want to come to the middle of nowhere) and a lot of out of state students too (including myself).

It's a good school for me. I have ADHD and they provide good support. I really like my classes and the professors. I am impressed with the sciences courses. I love my music study. I like my group, but It can be hard to get to know people, because they are a little aloof.

Juniata College is a great college. It's a very community and academically based school. Most people here are really nice and chill. There are always going to be “those people,” but that’s happens wherever you go. everyone has their own friend group, but most people know each other and have a general respect. which is better than most schools in my opinion. The academics are great and the professors are very caring and helpful if you need it. I have only had an issue with one of the faculty members. At juniata you are not just a number. The work is hard like any college, but the hard work pays off. With juniata's POE system, students are allowed flexibility in what they want to learn. For a small school, there is a lot of variety of classes you can take. It's a small town around here, so unless you or a friend have a car it kinda sucks but juniata's activity board and the clubs usually plan events for students on the weekends. if you need to go to Walmart or something though, you can usually find someone to take you so it’s not that big of a deal. There are some places in walking distance though like the cliffs and some cafe's. i never get bored though because jab always has activities, but they might not be everyone’s thing. The weekends are kind of a hit or miss, there are parties basically every Saturday at the east dorms. they can either be really good or really bad. Friday nights are pretty quiet, its just kind of a movie and card game kinda night. The clubs here are okay if you find what you like. Im in the gaming club and its pretty fun. The dorms are okay. It could definitely be worse. most of the ra's are really nice. the rooms are okay but it gets really hot in the summer and early fall because there is no ac, but I think that’s an issue at most schools. the traditions here are really fun too. the food is okay, but is pretty inconsistent. it’s typical college food. it might be better than some schools, though. the staff there are super nice and know your name. juniata provides a nice amount of services like counseling. Juniata really cares about you as a student. I suffer from an anxiety disorder and juniata is very accommodating. I’m able to have an emotional support cat in my dorm! I am glad I chose to go to school here. It was my first choice. Mostly everyone here is so quirky and fun, it really is a special place. Yes, there are people who think they are better than everyone else but I realized that it happens at literally every school. I’ve made a really good group of friends here so that’s all that matters. However, I don't think it's for everyone. There is no greek life and not a huge school, so if you are looking for that then you probably wouldn't like it. The small class size is nice because everyone knows each other, but also word goes around quickly. Juniata can be unorganized and annoying at times, but I know I picked the right school for me. This school is great for you if you are outdoorsy and looking for a personalized education! I think everyone should at least check it out.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Juniata College is 74%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020, _____ students were offered admission.
What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Out of my college experience I've gotten to meet now people and learn new things i thought i wouldn't think of knowing. College for me is a really cool place to be because it makes me feel like I will accomplish a lot. I think college to me is very valuable as, well as important, because without it I wouldn't have a good job or I would have a nice house to live on and watch my family grow.
My classmates are friendly, intelligent, and wonderful people. Each one is unique in their own special way, but since my school is very small, we are like one big happy family. We all participate in campus wide traditions together that have been a part of Juniata College for many years. We all are known for our excellent academic prestige, and carry on Juniata's reputation for having the best and brightest students around.
Like you can imagine at any school where students value their education and are trying to make the most of their tuition dollars students study a lot. I like to do my work in the library, which recently renovated the main floor and put in large study tables. Even with a full workload of class I still had time to go out on the weekends and have a good time. I rarely felt completely overwhelmed. Juniata also makes it easy to get a tutor and professors are always easy to get a hold of. That can mean all the difference. Don’t be surprised if professors give you cell phones or home numbers. Students are also really willing to help each other out and you can almost always find students who are looking for study partners or are willing to include you in review sessions.
When I was applying for college, I really never had a specific campus that I wanted to enroll in. Honestly, I never gave college much thought during high school. I just assumed an undergraduate program was the next step. I did not dream of a certain campus, but I knew that I would feel it when I found the right one. Juniata was exactly that. The campus is small, 1400 students, but it is warm and friendly. It feels like home. Also it's very academically driven. You will work your hardest here and become the best "you" possible.
What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
It is difficult to find a bad quality in Juniata College. But the one bad thing that comes to mind is its surrounding environment. There are not many recreational things to do around the town of Huntingdon, which forces students to either stay on campus or go elsewhere to have fun. This is not a major problem, but students that are used to the glamour and fun of big cities would have to adjust to the smaller, simpler atmosphere of Juniata College and Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
Juniata is a fantastic liberal arts college. It’s small, personal, and friendly. Students are dedicated to their work and do well. The science programs are strongest and most popular. Acceptance rates into medical school are some of the very best in the country and Juniata has had students receive impressive scholarships including numerous Fulbright scholarships.
I am so indebted to Juniata. I love this school and I think it’s such a wonderful mix of people. I also believe college is what you make of it. Being at Juniata you are surrounded by students who have that same mentality and strive to take advantage of all the programs and opportunities offered.
One of my favorite stories to tell about Juniata is how the school helped me start my own business. As an entrepreneurship major I was really excited by the programs offered by the colleges own business incubator. The incubator, JCEL, give seed capital money to students interested in starting their own business ventures and offered advice, counseling, and space to students.
As a sophomore I was in the process of creating an artisan hand painted picture frame business. At the time I originally wanted to put the wood frames together myself and needed access to the chop saws and work space in the art lab. For insurance purposed I wasn’t allowed to use the saws unless I was enrolled in a class. So to get around the loop hole my art professor created a one credit work study for me called ‘The Art of Presentation’ and basically spent an extra hour of her busy week in the studio with me helping me with my frames. She even had a spare set of keys to the saws made so I could get in and work whenever I wanted to. Tell me someone would do that for you at Penn State. I don’t think so.
There are countless other examples in different departments of professors who have gone out of their way to help students. At Juniata people want you to be successful and will do everything in their power to help you.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Some of the more active clubs and organizations on campus include Habitat for Humanity, which boasts a large following and usually organizes a Spring Break trip, Rugby, and the International clubs. Rugby sponsors a giant fundraiser called Pig Roast. Pig Roast is the stuff of legends. Basically it’s a huge fundraiser. Students register kegs, are put in busses and driven out to a field 20 minutes outside of campus, and drink all day. The rugby team sells five dollar tickets to the event and roasts a giant pig. There are also burgers, hot dogs, chips snacks exct and everyone just hangs out and has a completely awesome time. Later the rugby teams drunkenly hold alumni matches, which are always fun to watch.
As far as going out on the weekends a lot of kids do. Since Juniata is not a dry campus there’s always kids looking to have a good time and you can find parties in the dorm buildings. Juniata also makes an effort to bring in musicians and entertainment like hypnotists or comedians.
Juniata College is best known for it's ability to make a person more aware of the benefits of community and how to work together to make it even better. Juniata is known for changing the lives of students and making them better citizens and opening doors to many oportunities.
I think that the person best suited to Juniata is someone who is serious about their studies, but also has a sense of adventure, and appreciates an unusual sense of fun. Certain traditions, such as the Mr. Juniata pageant and the "storming of the arch" would appeal to those unusal senses of humor. Any serious students who need to be pushed would do well here. The science faculty in particular will be tough on their indroductory classes, to test them. Study abroad, community service, and service learning are all huge, which is good for those who need such things.
What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
A major stereotype would be that Juniata Students are all science nerds and spend every second of their time studying chemistry and biology. Although there is some truth to this (haha), the students at Juniata balance their studies and social lives very well I believe. When we need to get work done and study, we are in the computer labs and empty classrooms until the Juniata College Public Services kick us out at 2am. There have been multiple times I have been up studying that late and was asked to leave because they lock the buildings up at around 2am. However, on weeknights that we don't have work, you can get together with your friends and do whatever. Additionally, when the weekends come around, East and house parties are always the way to go.
What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating aspect about my school is its location. Since it is located in rural Huntingdon, Pennsylvania there is not very much to do on weekends, and consequently much of the campus parties. As a result of the partying not many activities are brought in on the weekends, because the administration knows that students are less than likely to attend. I attribute these negative aspects to the location because I feel that if the school was more urban, or even suburban, then these other problems would not exist in the same aspect.
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
The students at Juniata are known for being geeks and nerds, and this is mostly true. Stoners and jocks and partiers go to Juniata, but they are not in the majority. Still, if you want to go to Juniata, you can find people with non-nerdy interests; you might just have to look a bit harder.
Our school is not known for sports. The football team is not that successful. However, we do have a few successful sports teams. Both the men's and women's volleyball teams are very successful.
Some classes, like Organic Chemistry, are very large, but most classes have fewer than thirty people. In small classes, students get a lot of one-on-one interaction with their professors. Even in large classes, the professors are approachable and willing to answer questions. The classes can be challenging. Many science majors are required to take difficult classes in their Freshman year, weeding out the students who wouldn't be able to handle it. However, the classes can be worth it if you really want to learn.
People tend to complain about how small Huntingdon is and the lack of things to do surrounding campus. In addition, some people feel that Juniata is not hard partying enough.
All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA.
Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
100% of students attending Juniata College receive some sort of financial aid.
22% were awarded federal grants.70%received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
