Kent State University at Kent Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about Kent State University at Kent? Why?

Garrett

Kent State University overall has been a great experience. My one criticism would be with the parking here on the university. Last year reportedly the University parking services issued 800,000 dollars in parking fines. In my opinion, that was a little excessive, but at the same time I know there does need to be order and organization with repsect to parking.

The worst thing about school is the time it takes away time from your social life. There is less time to spend with your firends and family. I worry way to much about my grades and schooling that there is barely any time for me to do anything for myself. I would like more time with my friends and family.

The only thing I tend to dislike about this school is a rather small portion of the students who attend here. The population is rather large, and very few students are the ones I'm talking about. These students are people who somewhat live life believing they are better than others. The attitudes among them are very poor, and that is the only thing I would consider telling incoming freshman. Its important to remember who you are and that you are probably better than any of them, morally and emotionally.

Caroline

The worst thing about my school is that it isn't always easy to meet people. The classrooms are large so it is sometimes difficult to know people.

Rachel

The worst thing about my school is the expense. Although it isn't more than any other state school, the extreme cost of education makes it hard for many students to attend and live comfortably. I wish more scholarships were awarded based on performance.

David

What I consider as the worst thing about my school is that even though it is a major university, Kent State can still be labeled as a commuter college. A large percentage of the students that are attending school here live at home in different cities. And even the students that live on campus or around it still go home on the weekends very frequently. On some weekends the campus seems like a ghost town strictly because that lack of students. This would definitely be what I consider as the worst thing about my school.

The only thing that has bothered me about Kent State University is the lack food choice diversity. I am a vegetarian of eight years and find that looking for meals is difficult. When I go into one of the markets there is only a small selection of items that I would consider a meal. There are times when I get sick of all the items they have and either don’t eat anything or eat junk food.

Kathryn

I think the worst thing about KSU is that they never cleared the sidewalks when it snowed. Honestly! It can get pretty bad, and you would have to trudge to school through a foot of snow. It was awful.

Ashley

Its a little over two hours away and it's a lot of money to go back and forth.

Lynda

I don't consider anything bad about the school. The only complaint I have is the weather during the winter because we live in the snow belt. But, that isn't a problem with the school.

Mark

The worst thing about my school is the lack of a job placement program. There wasn't much emphasis on finding a job after college. The career counselors/academic advisors didn't really do much with that either. I graduated during the worst economic times in the last decade and there wasn't much emphasis on finding a job after college. What needs to happen is an active job placement program that would remedy this situation.

Marissa

Kent can be slightly crowded. For this reason it is imprtant you give yourself plenty of time to get to and from classes.

Anthea

The worst thing about my school is that in the winter it is very difficult to get from class to class because the sidewalks are not always paved and the bus system is not very efficient at times. Also, missing a class, even if it is for a legitimate reason, is very difficult because the penalties are slightly ridiculous and it could at times be difficult to get the right documents. And if one misses class for a reason other than what is described by university policies,(but is still a good reason) one is penalized, in my opinion, unfairly.

Matthew

The red tape. It takes multiple signatures from all of these people, most of which don't want to take the time to talk to you, in order to get a lot of things done.

Amnea

No one really knows whats going on. You find out important information after its too late.

Kristi

The worst thing I consider about Kent is the food. A lot of it is fried, sugary and not enough fresh vegetables or fruit. I may have not gained the "freshman 15," but I notice my pants fitting more snug. This year they are working on this by making sure each cafeteria has salads and other options for those more health-conscious. Also, it is very expensive to buy meals there. A lot of students run out of money on their meal plan before the semester is over.

Michael

Nothing really too bad about Kent State University. Everything easy going but, if I were to choose one thing I would say it's location. It's location is right in the middle of neighborhoods and restaurants and it's just so far away from everything to me. I can't complain about that. I commute and catch the bus out there, and I hear other students complain how they have to drive 35 mins before school starts to arrive on time. With over 40,000 students attending Kent State housing is very limited within the area.

Sierra

I really do not like the location of the school. I am always freezing no matter how bundled up I am outside.

Beatrice

I do not have a bad thing to say about Kent State, as my second year attending KSU I have found it a great school. It is challenging yet I feel like I have become a better person because of it.

Thaddeus

The worst thing about Kent State is parking and the lack there of. This is my first full year with a car on campus and getting a parking pass in itself is difficult unless you an upperclassmen or try and buy one the day they go on sale. For me, all my classes are virtually in the same building so I tried getting a parking pass as close to that building as I could and I was unable to on the second day of parking pass sales. Besides parking, however, Kent is a great campus!
