Make sure to remember as you go to college for the first time that you are a college student, first and foremost. To really succeed, you must put your studies first, before parties or work. In a few years, you will be so glad you did.

At any college, a student will be challenged and pushed to become the adult that he or she is supposed to be the rest of their lives. Whether the student is an athlete or a Christian or an International student or a Greek, success is in the eye of the beholder. Find good friends, find your niche, be yourself and everything else will come very easy.

One should make sure that they have a way to pay for the college they plan to attend without getting themselves into to much dept. This dept can take many years to pay off after graduating school and could make life hard for several years after college. Parents remember not to push your children to go somewhere that they don't want to go. Also don't push them to do a program they don't want to do. Lastly for the parents, don't be over controlling of ones children as they head out on the next step of their life. For the student, don't push to get as far from home as you can. A college close to home can be very beneficial when you need something from your parents or if you just want to get away for a weekend and don't have the time or money to drive or fly home. Also make sure you read all the information you get form the school to make sure you don't miss any dates that you need to do things or be places.

My advice would be to take a few visits to the campus' you are interested in. It's hard to really get a feel for the university without being there. You may be suprised with how nice some small colleges are, and it could end up saving you a lot of money.
