What is the stereotype of the students?
Trent
The Stereotype at LSU is accurate to a certain degree. A great deal of people do enjoy going out and partying every night, riding on the drunk bus, getting drunk, etc. But with every large school, there is diversity. I personally don't enjoy going out every single night, usually once or twice every few weeks as a break from school, as well as a majority of my friends in the dorm I stay in (Evangeline Hall). In reality, the stereotype is going to hold for a good amount of people at LSU, although not EVERYONE enjoys partying every single night. So don't be discouraged if you aren't a partier, you'll find a place at LSU. On the same note, don't be discouraged if you are a partier, because you'll most definitely find a place here at LSU.

Stereotypes are never completely accurate. People are too complicated and individual to categorize and hold them to certain characteristics.
Robin
I like to say stereotypes are "statistically correct." i.e. The stereotype is a probable occurrence in the given situation. According to that definition, I would say so.
However, please read below in the Academic section for my qualifiers to this statement.
Erin
No, there is certainly a significant percentage that is, but there is a large population that is far from it.
Ashley
Not entirely. I don't know what other schools are like. But there are planty of partiers and plenty of studious students, too. Football is a huge part of the LSU experience, but its the weekend entertainment. That doesn't discredit the academics. In fact, it pays for some of the academics.

Jody
For the majority, yes.
Kate
We do drink alot but we also go to class and make decent grade while doing it.
Ashley
Too some, not most.
Robert
Only to some extent. Many of the freshmen at LSU party a lot, but most of them drop out in about a semester. There are many VERY intelligent people here at LSU, professors and students alike. And yes, you will have to work for your degree: your first-year courses are typically easy, but after that one must put in some effort in order to succeed.
Meghan
In some cases yes, but our students can balance partying with outstanding academic achievements! LSU is so diverse, there are some people that don't drink at all and some who do every weekend.
Tyler
yes and no. the campus is really big, but certainly well laid out, organized and beautiful. there are a lot of party-ers because there are a lot of students and likewise a lot of nearby bars and nightclubs. classes are bigger and therefore attendance is rarely taken. there are a lot of classes that provide notes online (and most class notes are available on other note swapping websites), so yes there are temptations not to go to class. generally students who attend more often will do better on exams though!
Amy
To a certain degree. LSU does invest more funding into sports than academic programs. Instead of making LSU a leader in programs like film, the school chooses entertaining sports fans. LSU makes a lot of money off football.
One can choose whether or not to party hard. A lot of students become alcoholics while attending LSU. However, choosing to let one's grades drop over too many parties is a student's responsibility.

Not all students drink and go out all the time.. If you're grounded enough in who you are, the temptation won't get to you. Depending on your major, it's not hard at all. I'm in mass communication and it's kind of a joke. Fun, but very easy!
KJ
Absofuckinglutely! We can drink any college under the table and do it with some class and hospitality.
