They claim we are all party people. In a sense, its true, but we still get our work.

They say everyone here likes to party, and for the most part I would say this is pretty accurate.

There is a stereotype that there are many Greeks at LSU which is true but also a little exaggerated. We go to a school with over 30,000 students and about 14{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of that population is greeks. I have seen many people leave LSU because they feel like it is too fratty, but it is all about who you surround yourself with. I have met so many people just like me at this school that it was impossible not to make friends. It just takes time and even though you may not know anyone the first day (like me) you will know tons of people by the end of your first week here.

Football junkies

The common stereotype of LSU students is that LSU is the "Sexiest College of 2012". I do not see this but there are more important things about LSU.

The stereotype in my opinion is Greek life and lots of partying. Yeah, Greek life and partying are big at LSU, and they mix well most of the time. I used to really dislike the idea of Greek life here because I thought there was so much pressure to drink, party, and go nuts. However, after a close friend of mine entered a sorority, I realized that certain Greek houses do not have partying as a priority as some others do. Some Greek houses just focus on what they were meant to focus on: service and a "sisterhood" or "brotherhood." They focus on supporting each other and helping each other grow as college students and as individuals. And yeah, partying is very common, but only if you decide to make that part of your life. If you surround yourself with people who party a lot, you are more likely to party a lot. But like someone else said on his review of LSU, not EVERYONE parties. Some of us choose to have fun in other ways, and we are perfectly happy with that. Everyone chooses to enjoy their time differently. We go to the Parade Grounds (this huge field of grass we have in the middle of campus), and we play sports. Sometimes, we watch movies or just chill out in the lobby of our residential community. We go get yogurt at a near yogurt place. We go listen to and watch bands play at the Varsity Theatre really close to campus. We work out a lot. There is SO much to do at LSU. You can find an activity for almost any interest!

There are pretty much a lot of stereotypes here at LSU. You have the Fraternity and Sorority kids, stoners, anime freaks, nerds etc... but it really isn't a bad thing. Everyone keeps to themselves and hangs out with people with whom have the same qualities and personality with.

Frat kids

I think that the major stereotype of students at my school is that of frat kids and a lot of partying. This stereotype is accurate to a certain degree. For example, there are a lot of fraternities and sororities at my school and there is a lot of partying especially because of the football atmosphere. However, my school is also a place where students can gain a great education. From my personal experience, I can say that my school offers a lot of choices as far as whether you are interest in joining a fraternity or sorority, doing research, studying abroad, etc. You can customize your college experience. As an added bonus, my school has a lot of pride and a beautiful campus.

The stereotype that students from other universities have about LSU students is that we like to party and drink a lot. This may be accurate but from what I have learned from visiting other campuses over the last four years is that students at LSU don't party any more than students from other campuses. We do tailgate for sporting events better than anyone else and the southern, cajun culture that surrounds LSU is incredible.

As human beings everyone is stereotypical of other people. At LSU many people see sorority girls are a bunch of preppy girls who pay for their friends. That Is actually incorrect. From being in a sorority myself, the girls there are amazing. They are extremely friendly and rarely preppy. Also you are not paying for your friends. You actually pay for house duties, for social functions, for your philanthropy, and etc. it is a great experience and I encourage many girls to join a sorority.

LSU Students: There for the party. Greek girls: Nike shorts, leggings and oversized t-shirts, pearl earrings, drama, walks of shame, buying friends. Greek boys: parties, Sperry's and collared shirts, hazing. Christians: far too many opinions to determine what they actually believe; hard to imagine they all identify themselves under the same label. Jocks: get away with everything academically. Stereotypes are never fully accurate.

The football team always represents itself well during the season, and many of LSU's other sports teams are also quite talented. In that sense, it is not uncommon to wear LSU gear in other states and hear comments about the football team or other sports teams...but you would never expect to hear a comment applauding the university's academic programs. Though LSU sports ca outshine LSU academics in the national spotlight, the football team plays an important role to the university: LSU is one of the very few universities whose athletic program pays for itself due to its popularity. In addition, LSU sporting events draw tens to hundreds of thousands of fans, making LSU one of the most unique and exciting tailgating colleges. A student would be hard pressed to find another university whose fans are so loyal, so multi-cultural, so friendly, such good cooks, and so ready to have a good time. There truly is a strong community surrounding LSU which is maintained through large sporting events such as baseball in the Spring and football in the Fall. The atmosphere of the LSU family that stretches across Louisiana really can't be expressed until it is experienced. It should be considered, that while the sporting side of the university certainly draws a lot of attention, there are in fact very strong programs in LSU's academic catalog. Not only does LSU have a huge array of majors and graduate programs available, allowing for a rich academic environment, but LSU also have very strong programs in the arts and sciences. LSU boasts the number one department for architecture in the country. Additionally, large energy corporations hire a high percent of LSU students in engineering majors compared to other schools as a result of the fantastic networks set up by the university's engineering departments. LSU has fantastic music programs available and is an excellent choice for anyone interested in biological sciences, earth sciences, agricultural sciences, physics, or mathematics. Employers recognize the LSU degree as worthy of respect, and that is all that matters.

Best and worse football fans in the south

LSU has a reputation of being a party school. The majority of the people here are locals taking advantage of the Louisiana TOPS program that pays for tuition and fees. We have a reputation of partying all the time and studies suffer. Partying and football games come first before academics at LSU. We definitely have a variety of people including international students, geeks, jocks, and nerds, but the majority of LSU are partying sorority/frat people.

I suppose a major stereotype is that we're all crazed football fanatics, which is largely true.

At LSU, students are subject to a lot of stereotypes. Many people think we're all hardcore sports fanatics who only care about football and not school. While we love our Tigers, LSU is more than just sports. You'll encounter students with LOTS of interests, not just football. There are many students who don't care much for sports and there are many ways to get involved on campus that don't include sports. Also, many people think we're all from Louisiana. That's definitely not true! Our students come from all over the US and all over the globe! While you'll meet a few students from the Baton Rouge or New Orleans area, you'll meet tons more from all over the world! Our student body is surprisingly diverse. I've also heard people say that LSU is all Greek life. While a lot of students are involved in Greek life, many aren't and there are tons of ways to get involved on campus that aren't limited to Greek life.

The most common stereotype is that Louisiana State University is a party school. Yes, we do have many ways and place to have fun, especially during Football season but we also are a school of academic excellence. Football season is the highlight of first semester so it can be easy to get off track but everything is calmer during second semester. I would say the students are serious about their grades but also like to have fun.

Most people would think that since LSU is such a large school that everyone likes to party, while this may be true for some people, not everyone goes out every night. In the dorm that I live in, Evangeline Hall, most people prefer to stay in and study or play some type of game down in the lobby rather than to go out and party at the bars.
