Louisiana State University-Shreveport Top Questions

What should every freshman at Louisiana State University-Shreveport know before they start?

Josh

Don't stay here because of the girl you're dating, relationships rarely last throughout college, and you have the world to expierence for yourself. Enjoy your life, and realize those all nighters that you will do are a blessing in disguise. Don't let the anger get the best of you, as you're use to doing, and push yourself to another limit because that's the type of potential you have. Cherish each moment as your last, and don't be scared to joke around as much as you do, it'll never hurt you.

Christopher

I would've look into some more colleges.

Kelly, Life after high school is not what you think it is. Get it together now and do yourself a favor that will impact your future in a positive way. Take you grades, teachers, and school work more seriously, because you are making your future harder on yourself. Your friends are important, but should not be such a high priority and 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of them will fade away within the 1st year of college. There is one thing that will matter out of everything that your high school has given you, and that is your education. I know you cannot understand this, but your parents will not be around forever and education is the key to your success on so many levels. Listen to the adults in your life that care about you, because what they are telling you is true! If you get a job while your in college, make sure you realize it is temporary. Don't get caught up in the money so much that school comes in second place. Don't let the job take over your life, but be dependable. It is all about finding a balance in every aspect of your life.

I just began college this semester so I'm still new to everything. However, my teachers have been great and I am looking forward to obtaining a valuable education in Public Communications. If I did not go to school there would be no way that I'd be able to have a job in the Public Communications arena. I'm also looking forward to being able to grow personally as I apply myself to my studies and strive to do the best that I can.

Going into college I had no idea what to expect. My first semester was very difficult and I had to learn how to study. I have learned how to create new friendships and help other people as well as myself in the classroom.

What I have gotten out of college is a new sense of accomplishment. I am the first person in my family to not only get accepted to a college, but to also get my Associate?s Degree. I have not come from the best of households. Most of the members of my family dropped out of High School, so getting to college and finally having an opportunity to make a better life for myself and my future family is a really great feeling. I think that no matter what your background is and no matter where you come from going to a college is the best thing you can do for yourself. I have learned so much about the world and different cultures because of college. It has opened my eyes to new experiences and new ideas I would have never normally thought twice about. I think going to college is the best thing you can do for yourself. It not only gives you a sense of accomplishment, but it also gives you a new perspective on the world and you can not get that feeling anywhere else.

When I first enrolled at my community college I had no idea what to expect. But, not only have I been able to grow academically, the life lessons that I have learned hold a huge value in my life and today's society. I feel so much more equipped to handle "the real world". Something that I have loved most about my college experience so far is the fact that it's not just about the classes you take and the grades you make. College is a community filled with many unique individuals who all bring something different and exciting into the classroom. The atompshere that is created from a group of various students is one that I have thrived in and thoroughly enjoyed throughout these past two years of community college. I am going on to a four year university to finish my college degree this Fall and, while I am nervous about the new environment, I am also very excited about the many opportunities I will have, not only in class, but on campus as well-- because I have learned that college is so much more than just reading a textbook and answering questions. It is a family.

College is the time to explore who you are and to find out what you enjoy. My decision to attend college is one of the best choices I have made in my life. I am very serious about making my college experience work for me so I put a lot of effort into my studies, but I also find time to enjoy what my college has to offer. Last semester I put a lot of effort into learning, not just trying for good grades. I found I learned the material and also received an ?A? in all of my classes. I really believe you will get out of it what you put into it. My college experience thus far has been invaluable. I have found my college experience not only teaches me the skill set necessary to obtain a future job in my particular field of study, but it has taught me about myself. College has increased my self-worth and I have learned what I am capable of, how well I work in groups, what my strengths and weaknesses are, and time management skills. I know these are all skills/attributes that will serve me well when I graduate.

Although I have been a college student for just one semester, I have experienced first hand the importance education holds in bettering your future. Higher education provides oppertunities that are not just specific to any career application.

Drawing on the past and looking toward the future and knowing what I know now about the transition from high school to college life, I would go back to my high school and advise myself to prepare to work hard, manage my time wisely, prioritize my activities, manage my funds wisely, and balance my academic, social, and spiritual life. First, I would have to stress that coursework in college is much more complicated and it takes more time to comprehend the content. I would advise myself to become consciously aware of how I learn and program myself to follow that pattern to maximize my abilities. Secondly, I would stress the need to manage my time and prioritize my activities with a daily schedule. I would advise myself to allow time management and prioritization to help keep me focused. Next, I would advise myself to budget my funds by making a list of what i need to spend and save each month. Finally, I would advise myself to have a balance of work, play, worship and family. By having this balance in my life, I would have a network of family, friends and mentors to connect with and to help me.
