Describe the dorms.

Shari

There are a couple dorms at Morgan State, most females stay at Blount their first year while males usually stay in O'Connell. From living at Blount my freshman year there are some ups and downs. The rooms are a good size but when you factor in living with another person everything becomes so much smaller, so you have to hope and pray your roommate is clean and easy to get along with. You share a bathroom with the 3 other rooms in your quarter, and they are set up like basic public bathrooms with 4 showers added. The bathrooms are cleaned every morning so they don't get too out of hand. Since it's 8 floors of females...of course theres drama, its destined to happen. Fire alarms were pulled randomly at all hours of the night, making everyone stand outside for a good 15-20 minutes. Now as for O'Connell, rooms are about the same size as in any dorm 2 people to a room and there are 3 floors. Every floor shares the same bathroom in their hallway so you can only imagine how that would look, from all that I heard I'll never step into the bathrooms there. Every dorm also has visitation hours during the week visitors can stay until 10:30 I believe and weekends its until 12am, but because of some behavior visitation gets suspended a lot. Males can stay in other dorms too such as Baldwin, Cummings, and Rawlings. Thurgood and Marble Hall are both male and female and set up like apartments, you get a kitchen, living room, bedrooms, and bathroom. I believe their are 4 bedrooms in Thurgood and 2 bedrooms in Marble hall but you share them with one other person, well at least in Marble Hall you do. Females have the option to also stay in Harper - Tubman. Eventually many people choose to stay in Morgan View which isn't technically campus housing so you would have to go there to apply for housing. You have the option to pay every month for rent or its taken out of your tuition using EZPay which most students do. Morgan View cost more then the other dorms but its worth it, its usually clean, you have your own room, you share the apartment with 3 other people, you share the bathroom with just one other person, and you have a living room and kitchen. I enjoy staying in Morgan View over the other dorms, you have your own freedom and no visitation hours just as in Marble Hall and sometimes Thurgood.

There are technically 9 dorms on Morgan's campus. You have Blount Towers and Harper Tubman. These are the girls only dorms. Honors students that are girls will most likely be placed in Harper Tubman. You have Rawlings Hall, O'Connell, Cummings, and Baldwin. These are the boys only forms. Cummings and Baldwin are the male Honors dorms, and O'Connell is for freshman only. All the dorms are mixed with classifications except O'Connell. The other on campus dorms are Thurgood Marshall and Marble Gardens. Thurgood Marshall is a co-ed dorm. Meaning that you will live with the same sex in your room, but other rooms above you or next to you may be male of female. These dorms are the apartment style so you have your own kitchen and two bathrooms. This dorm is for upperclassmen but some sophomores are able to get in. Marble Gardens is the same as Thurgood Marshall, it is just located across the street from the Northwood shopping center, across the street from school. The last place to live, which is considered off campus, is Morgan View. This is more of the apartment styles. It is located close to campus, about 10 minute walking distance. However the shuttle buses do transport students from campus to these dorms. You have a total of 4 roommates that share a living room, a kitchen, and 2 bathrooms. You have your own private room that you share with no one and share one bathroom with the suite mate next to you. For safety reasons, it is always best to lock your dorm room whenever you are leaving. It is not smart nor safe to leave your dorm room open for any reason.

Dorms vary depending on gender, academic status, and classification.

The dorms are are all different. The best male dorm, in my opinion, is rawlings because is has better security, cleaner and the dining hall is on the first floor. The only bad thing about Rawlings is that it is the farthest dorm from classes on campus. Other male dorms have their pros too. Cummings and Baldwin are located in the middle of campus, so it is more convenient to get to and from classes. I can not comment on girl dorms because I did not stay in them

i believe the dorms are what you make of it. i like the dorm personally because you have everything you need a kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom what more do you need.

Dorms were a deal breaker for me when I was looking for a University to call my own. The freshman dorms at Morgan State are huge! There was plenty of space for my roommate and I. i was able to decorate the dorm as I pleased which really helped me get settled. my roommate and I got along great and the beds were lage and confortable. There was more than enough storage space and all furniture was new and sturdy. My dorm room looked really nice. the best thing about living on campus is the meal plan!

I Live in Morgan View which is an off campus student apartment style housing where student have the options of choosing 1, 2, or 3 roommates. I have 3 roommates and in our apartment, there are 4 individual rooms, a kitchen, a living room and two baths. The best part of this is that I don't have to worry about monthly payments because it comes off my financial aid. Although this complex is only a 7 minutes walkaway from campus, we have shuttles that come there to pick and drop students off, we have our own gym and computer lab so we don't have to go on campus to workout or use the computer lab to do our assignments.

The dorms are really close knit. At times to close knit especially for a person who likes privacy. There are other dorms that should match most of your necessities though.

the dorms for the most part a spacious. for freshman you will always share aa room but the girls rooms are kind of big. the boys dorms that i have seen are okay sized. if you dont like the situation of sharing a room i can say that it is a good experience and helps you meet new people so make the most of it.
