Well to the parents, I would say to take your child to the campus during the last month of school so that he/she may sit in on a class or two. They can all get a feel for the campus and the life on campus. It is a big help for many students, and a relief for many parents. Do e-mail, write, or call your student a few times a week, it helps with home sickness, especially durning finals. As far as students, I suggest that they get to know people in thier classes. You may not intent on missing a class, but it helps to have a friend who has the notes or to be the one to help out. It is best if you find out who the people are that will be studying the same Major/Minor as you. In the case of TAMIU the same people are in a lot of the same classes as you are once you are out of the basics period. Also, do not be afraid to go tutoring centers they are there to help you, and, in most cases, they do a great job at it.
