MY classmates are diverse but very intelligent.
Josie
My classmates vary greatly of course from class to class, but for the most part they are socially amicable people with interesting life stories, goals and achievements which you get to hear if YOU make the effort of starting up some sort of conversation.

My classes are usually very large, but the classmates that I have met are always very nice and ready to help me out. I am a Pre-Med, so all of the other Pre-Meds feel my pain. We are always there to help each other out in times of need.

I am gay and I think the LGBT make to big a deal of being gay.

The student body at UT is as about as diverse as they come. Here you will be exposed to a wide variety of opinions and backgrounds from students that have come from all over the world and have lived in almost every situation imaginable. There are countless special interest groups (from student government to religion to comedy groups) for you to participate in, not to mention all of the cultural festivals that take place throughout the year. If you truly want to broaden your world view, this is definitely a good place to come.

UT is such an open-minded school with different organizations for just about every ethnicity, religion, and race. We also have a very active LGBTQ community that has forums and events throughout the year. I honestly don't think that it's possible to not fit somewhere on our campus. With a school of about 50,000 students the possibilities and friendships that you make are endless.
Most students are from Texas, just like any other public school in other states. However, we do have an organization called the Out-of-State Students Association that many out-of-state students are a member of.
UT is also a politically active school, especially since we are located in the state capitol. We have the Texas Conservatives and University Democrats, that hold forums and debates and do a great deal of work with not only local politicians but members of the Texas Legislature as well. They also host vote-a-thons on campus, like the primaries that took place earlier this year.

UT is a hugely diverse college. We have the benefit to having a wide scope of people and there are people of all groups. Students that would feel out of place might be people that are unaccustomed to a lot of people or a city environment. If you are open to different ideas, you will be able to find your niche. I will say that the majority of people are from Texas, especially Houston. Oh, and people tend to be more political because we are right next to the capital.
Brandon
Most everyone from UT is from Dallas or Houston with some samplings from almost everywhere else.

I love the fact that UT is so diverse and welcoming to all sorts of organizations on campus. From my experience, students go very casual to class (t-shirt, shorts, flipflops, maybe even pajama pants). Though UT is very diverse, I have noticed that for the most part, the different races don't interact as much with each other. Latinos usually stick to each other, as do African Americans, Asians, and most Whites. Being politically aware and active in student/government issues, I have come across a lot of students who are extremely involved (and find most of the ones at UT predominantly left). That being said, i wouldn't conclude that the majority of students care/are involved with these sort of issues.
