The University of Texas at Austin Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about The University of Texas at Austin? Why?

It is too big. This makes it very hard for new students to adjust to being on a campus this size. Its very hard to stay aware of all the activities and events on campus. I often feel like I am missing something.

I think the worst thing about my school is that they try so hard to seem like they are a very integrated mix of people, and that everyone is very accepting of everyones differences, but that is not the truth. They try and emphasize it so much during orientation, but nobody really takes it seriously.

Sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming. It definitely takes some getting used to and a strong personality and sense of self to get comfortable here. I had a hard time adjusting to college life my first year but after making use of the counseling resources available and joining some organizations I carved out my niche and feel right at home.

The campus is far too large, making it difficult to make friends. Many people I have met have judged me because of my obvious differences. If you aren't in a sorority or a freternity you are automatically excluded.

The worst thing about the University of Texas is the lack of on-campus housing. I have never lived on-campus because they do not have enough room. I felt like they somewhat encourage living off-campus so they don't have to turn so many people down for on-campus housing. Though I love my experience at Texas, I do feel like I have missed out a little on an important part of college because I never got to live on campus.

The worst thing about UT might be the class sizes. Sometimes there are 400 people in a class. The professors defnitely try to be attentive to every student's need, but they are human of course. I'm glad that so many students get to study at UT, but the class sizes can be kind of ridiculous at times.
