I went to a very conservative Christian high school, and everyone there told me that I was off to join the "steers and queers." There seems to be a consensus among certain crowds that we Longhorns are a bunch of pot-smoking hippies.

Since it's a big-ten school, it's all about sports-sports-sports. The undergraduate classes are huge because there's such a high population.
Ryan
Lots of drinking, white, young
Michael
A couple of the stereotypes are that we're "really liberal" and all we do is party.
John
Many people seem to think of UT students as all being very liberal and snobbish.
Parker
partiers; liberal, freespirited atmosphere. team spirit.
Tate
People assume that everyone is in a frat or sorority and that everyone drinks.
Frances
UT- rich, mostly white, top 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} rule (either stupid or brilliant),
Students- too good for community college, smart, partyers, Greek,
Torry
That we're obnoxious larger than life people (moreso about fans at our games). It just comes with going to the largest school in Texas.
Catherine
there is a clear cut separation between the groups and not alot of intermixing because the university is so large. THus, people just stick with their affiliated "group" that they join whether it be a fraternity/sorority, honors club, big student organization, ethnic or cultural specific club, friends on hall in dorm, etc.
Hunter
that we party a lot and love football
Sarah
Many think that UT is too big and impersonal. They think you can never make friends because there are just too many. UT is also known as being a huge party school.
Lauren
party a lot, smart, ut has a diverse student body and some weirdos cause its in austin
KC
Most people in the b-school have a reputation for being a little bit stuck up in an "I'm better than you" sort of way.
Cody
That all are very liberal. Students never study. #1 party school.
Chris
Some people say that we're all nerds, and some people (notably Aggies) say that we're all gay.
Courtney
I would say that one of the biggest stereotypes is that UT is a party school, and not much more. Also, a number of people from my high school who went out of state thought that I wasn't living up to my potential by going to a state-school and not leaving Texas. Basically, these people questioned the caliber of a degree from UT.
Alex
One stereotype about The University of Texas in general is that it is simply a party school. This may have something to do with Princeton Review ranking us the number 1 party school in the nation last year...Indeed, Texas students know how to party. Also, people outside of Texas, particularly in the northern part of the country think The University of Texas has a politically conservative population. With President Bush and the strict death penalty associated with Texas, I can see why UT could be assumed very conservative. Lastly, with great universities comes the snob stereotype. Perhaps, Texas students are just confident.
