Truman State University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about Truman State University? Why?

Barbara

There is a pretty obvious divide between the town and the college. Kirksville is very conservative and has a small town feel, while Truman State is very liberal and the majority of its students come form urban areas. This tends to create some animosity when students interact with the people of Kirksville.

Emily

The worst thing is probably that students seem to stress out a lot about their grades. Succeeding at Truman takes dedication and hard work, but some students have the mentality that grades are more important than actually learning and growing. Truman has a lot of high-achievers, and it seems that anxiety, stress, and sleep loss are fairly common complaints.

Chelsea

I think the worst thing about Truman is the location. Kirksville is such a small, rural community that when it comes to things like job placement, work experience, and internships, students don't receive the same opportunities that students from metropilitan schools have.

Nicholas

The majority of the campus buildings could very easily be characterzed as "eye-sores." There are two new buildings on campus - science and music - the others have lots of problems.

In order to do really well you have to eat, sleep, and breathe school. So if you want a life you're going to either choose your major carefully or just learn to be okay with B's. Another thing is that it's really easy to get a scholarship to go here, but it's really hard to keep it depending on wht your major is since the gpa requirement for most full scholarships is a 3.25 which is harder to maintain than you think wspecially if you go greek.

Amanda

The education requirements are too general and not focused enough. The school did not really prepare for work, just further education.

David

The student body is somewhat elitest, as Truman is a selective institution, yet resides in a very rural, lower-middle class area. It is not as intellectually or creatively challenging as the university and student body would like one to believe, yet it is decently so. Simply, the worst thing about the school is the attitude which permeates the campus.

Terriane

It is two hours away from a large city. It is not very culturally diverse.

Kate

The town is very small, which is fine most of the time but there is not much to do off campus. I would not want to live here after graduating.
