The best thing about UD is probably the campus - it's beautiful and probably what attracted me to the school in the first place. At first, UD seems huge and intimidating but the longer you are there, the smaller it becomes and chances are, as you walk across campus, you'll run into 10 people you know.

The school is just the right size, not too small to be restricted to any one crowd, and not too big to get drowned out. The best part about the school is the campus. It could be a little more condensed, but it's pretty beautiful. It's definitely a college town, although all the students hear about is how the town wants to be separate from the university. There's not a whole lot of school pride, or at least there wasn't when I was there. However, social life does flourish. The one thing I would change if I could would be campus safety. As a girl, I often felt scared walking home from class alone at night, etc.

UD was the perfect size for me, someone who wanted a large student body to meet new people but not so large walking campus would be a chore or the area would be too urban. Like most colleges, parking was always a confusing mess. There is a lot of school pride because, as I saw it, few Blue Hens didn't enjoy their school, the campus or in general their major-related classes. There were also complaints of long walks between North Campus and the classroom buildings. I spent most of my time at UD at the student centers -- near the food! -- or in my dorm; I wasn't a fan of studying at the library or other designated study areas. One sucky thing was how more and more bars were disappearing, which probably has prompted more house parties. Everyone who goes to UD who can afford to should do a study abroad program; I did two, loved them and talk about them constantly.

I really liked the town, it catered to students and it was a fun time. it was the perfect size.

- The best thing is that most people were extremely friendly. A close second is the study abroad program. - I wish there had been more ethnic diversity--the school is 85{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} white. - college town for sure. - I spent most of my time in The Review's office. - Reaction: Oh I hear that's a lot of fun. (read: I hear that's a party school). -There's a lot of school pride. Perhaps not so much as Penn State but alumni are always going back. - Unusual? The squirrels. They came right up to you like pigeons in Manhattan and were known to scale walls. - complaints: non-air conditioned dorms and, later, not enough bars.

Emily

Great college town, and university is continually growing and improving.

When I tell people I went to UD, some are impressed, but I've gotten a few that said "Where is that?" "Um....Delaware." "Where's that?" "South of NJ." "Ohh." So that's always fun. I think there's a lot of school pride. I never saw more students wear more school paraphenalia than when I went to UD.

Katie

- Best thing- the campus - Change- Laird campus being so disconnected from everything - People are impressed that I go to UD and hear that it's getting harder and harder to get accepted into. - I live off campus and spend most of my time there. My first year here I lived in Pencader, so I felt VERY disconnected from the university. - There is a lot of school pride here, I love that.

Jenna

The size is really ideal. There are enough people so that you always have the opportunity to meet new people. However, there are definite circles which make the school feel smaller and less overwhelming. People are either impressed by UD since it's reputation as an academic institution is getting stronger or they aren't all that impressed because it's a state school.

UD is a great mid-sized school that offers something for everyone. With nearly 16,000 undergrads, it's not a small school, but it's also not overwhelmingly large like Penn State. UD has a beautiful campus that features a vibrant main street running directly through it. In my opinion, Newark, Del., is your textbook definition of a college town. Football games are the best example of students showing off their school pride. Everybody always wears their blue and gold. Racial tensions always seem to be a big issue, mainly because of the state's history as well as the university's relatively small black population.

The best thing about UD... The people are great, the campus is beautiful.. The schoool was the perfect size... When I tell people I went to UD they usually know someone who went there as well, friend or family member.

Jesse

LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SCHOOL. THE END.

Jason

UD was definately four of the best years of my life. It was not only fun but extremely educational. The faculty are amazing and the people are just as great. It's friendly and reminds me of what a "true college campus" is. I learned a lot and had even more fun. Most importantly, I made some of the best friends I will ever have.

I would change how strict parking is, you can't even go to the gym and park unless you have a parking permit. The school is just the right size, however the gyms and fitness facilities could be a lot larger because they cant accommodate all the students. When people hear that I go/went to UD they are impressed, some have called it "a diamond in the ruff" I spend most of my time in McKinly lab in the physical therapy department because I am now a PT grad student here. This is definately a college town, Main Street makes it. UD's administration professor-wise I think is excellent. When it comes to administration and dealing with people such as residency chairs, financial aid people, etc. I have had poor experiences with them and find them a little rude. There is a ton of school pride here. Example is how many people made the trip to Chattanoga, TN to cheer on the football team this fall in the superbowl. The experience I will always remember was my time I spent studying abroad in Peru and Australia and New Zealand. Most frequent student complaints deal with the lack of gym space.

Caitlin

The best thing about UD is the way it's integrated into the center of Newark. Main Street runs right down the middle of campus and it's a great place to spend time between classes and on weekends. The school is the perfect size, not too small but not impossibly huge. When I tell people I go to UD, they usually think I go to school on a farm in lower Delaware with 10 other students. They have no idea that the campus is gorgeous and the school is a pretty decent size. The biggest recent controversy on campus was the ResLife diversity scandal. There's tons of school pride but not when it comes to basketball (where you usually expect it).

I came here essentially not knowing anyone but by the end of the first week i met a whole different array of people and met some of my closest friends since i've been here. I like the atmosphere that surrounds UD the most, i love how cleanly and modern the campus is and it just personifies a welcoming aura.

best thing about UD is chi omega. one thing i'd change is the strike policy. i think it makes people scared to do the right thing (like call an ambulance when someone is seriously in bad shape), i think the size is just right. people say "oh that's a party school" when i tell them I go to UD. i spend most of my time on choate street and and klondike kate's, COLLEGE TOWN, i think the administration is just great, biggest recent controversy- not too sure, NOT ENOUGH SCHOOL PRIDE. football games are semi- lame compared to other schools. unusual- that depends on your personal opinion. i think it is pretty standard "college", one experience i'll always remember is pledging a sorority, most frequent student complaints: mine are the advisement within colleges and the "strike" policy. doesn't make people want to do the right thing.

Adrian

People are always impressed when you say you go to UD. Its known as a very good school by most professional communities. The school is just the right size. Campus is not too big at all, and the number of people is not bad at all. Personally, I chose delaware over penn state because of its size. Newark, DE is a college town. The surrounding areas are a little bit shady in some spots. But even those aren't bad. There is only one real "main street." The bars around are just average, and personally I'm not a big fan. But there are always things going on like house parties and stuff like that. The most persistant complaint is the three strike policy. This is a policy that says if you get in trouble with the university (or with the Newark police) for three instances than you get put on differed suspension, which means you get kicked out. This policy sucks, because the cops around the area suck.
