University of California-San Diego Top Questions

What kind of person should not attend University of California-San Diego?

Kelly

Someone who is pursuing a business degree or nursing.

Tina

UC San Diego can be very isolating for individuals who are not out-going and social. It is a very academically focused and competitive school, so if you are not a motivated person it can be overwhelming. In order to succeed at this school, you should be the type of person that is self-motivated about becoming involved and putting your name and face out there. I would not recommend this school for people that are shy and intimidated by competition. It is a school of the best and brightest, so understand that you might not get straight As.

Rebecca

Any student that would like to develop that "college experience." There is not a school that you will likely develop years of friendship. The students typically do not stay in the area after graduation. La Jolla has banned UCSD to have a sorority/frat row, calling it a brothel. The sorority/fraternity experience is not like typical school, rather the selection is based on a computer selection program. The only way to have a social life is to join a frat or sorority. It is severely lacking in anything social.

Anyone who requires a highly social environment to thrive should not attend this school unless they join a fraternity/sorority IMMEDIATELY and do not EVER live in on-campus housing. A person with a closed mind and a tendency to dislike or discriminate against Asian culture and people should also not attend this school.

Jeffrey

A person should not attend University of California San Diego if they are looking for fun. If they are not serious about education then they should not attend the university. Anyone who is education (research) and career oriented should attend University of California San Diego. This university offers a great deal of resources in research for engineering and sciences. This university is not for individuals who are not serious about their education.

Jillian

Lazy or closed-minded.

Grace

people who like the city

Lorena

someone who is looking to party

Belinda

Students who do not like to work hard, read a very heavy load and write loads of papers. This is a tough school and you will have to focus on academics over a social life.

Thien-Kim

People that don't think they can afford the tuition.

Joy

A person who likes competition and urban areas.

Ting-Chun

Those who are not interested in science, engineering, or computer science should not attend this school.

Emily

Someone who wants a good balance between a social and academic life. Academics are held to a much higher pedestal than social lives.

Margaret

Somebody who needs structured classes with a professor to guide them through everything. Students need to be able to be independent learners and be motivated enough to keep up with their school work themselves. The grades are based on midterms, finals, and papers; there is rarely homework or extra credit, and attendence is only taken in discussion sections or seminars. The professors do care about the students, but do not reach out to help those who are failing- if you are struggling, you need to ask for help yourself.

Andrew

A pragmatic student who not only wants to take advantage of the many academic opportunities that UCSD has to offer, but also the scores of social activities as well.

Ahnna

The classes at this university are not for the faint-hearted. If you are not willing to put blood, sweat, and tears into your work you probably won't succeed. You should be ready to try new experiances because this is an extremely diverse campus, which makes it a wonderful environment in which to live.
