College is the best time for someone to grow into an adult and understand what they want to do with the rest of their lives. The academic quality of a school is only slightly more important than the social and socital structure that is around it. Keep an open mind.

To make the most out of your first year of college, I woulld advise sleeping. UI know that that sounds crazy, but my freshman year, I averaged 4 hours of sleep a night if I was lucky. I know now that I won't miss anything by sleeping. Sleep is you friend. And join an intermural sports team!

In high school I was your typical stressed out, type-A, honors student. When choosing between colleges the most beneficial thing for me was to see the campuses. It was important to get the feel of the campus and the energy of the students. Originally, I thought I would want to go to the highest ranked college I got into, but after visiting Santa Barbara my mind was made. For me, the laid back energy of the school combined with its excellent academics created the ideal learning environment. Every student will thrive in different environments but I think all prospective students need to find a campus with a balance between academics and social life. Since coming to college I have learned that grades aren?t my entire life. As long as students apply themselves and broaden their horizons, they will be enriching their life and exercising their minds. Having life experiences are as crucial to a student?s college education as what they learn in the classroom. They will get the most out of college by making stupid mistakes, creating lifelong friendships, falling in and out of love, going abroad, and most importantly learning to the art of time management.

Find a college that fits your needs/what you want to get out of college. once you're in as a freshman do as many clubs/activities as you possibly can to meet as many new and interesting people, even things that you wouldn't think you would be into. Try NEW THINGS!

Decide which college is best for you based on your future, what you want and where you want to live. Do not choose based on your parents, friends, or especially not because of a boyfriend or girlfriend. Choose for yourself.

First off community colleges are a fantastic way to save money, take care of GE?s, and figure out what you would like to study. When looking at colleges deicide what is important to you in a school and research these qualities to make a list of possibilities. Once you have this list it is in your best interest to visit the colleges before you apply to them. It may be a lot of work but doing this saves you time, money, and anxiety during the application process. When visiting keep in mind the general feeling you get from the campus, stop a student and ask them questions, and visit the town. Make your final decision by trusting your gut; and remember there is always the possibility transferring if you are unhappy. Once at school get to know new friends by talking to your neighbors, classmates and getting involved in clubs or activates (it may seem lame but it works). To do well in your classes know that it is always possible to crash a class, swap information with another student in your class so you can help each other out, and talk or email your teacher with ANY question.

Actually go to each campus you are applying. You will be able to tell where the student will fit in and feel comfortable; that is the most important thing about academic success.
