The professors are very informed. I send most of my time in the music department which I enjoy the most.

I really enjoy classes here. My professors are passionate about what they teach and that makes classes a lot more enjoyable. The professors are also understanding and show interest in my education. I feel comfortable asking for help when I need it. The work load can be hectic sometimes but professors work with you and offer services outside of the school for additional help.

Not that challenging. I graduated with a 3.25 and basically was a complete goof off. It wasn't challenging at all.

The majority of my professors know my name but that is because I always speak up in class. I am a sport administration major and I love all of my major classes. The gen eds are going to be really boring and tedious but once you make it to your major the classes get a lot more interesting. I usually just cram for 3 hours before a test and I have gotten all A's and B's. Attendance is the key to succeeding in my opinion.

Academics are like what you would find at any other school. What you put into them is what you get out of them. Classes require studying and effort, but it is a good learning environment. Most classes are no more than 25 students, unless large beginner level lectures, so teachers become personalized with all of their students. This also allows the class to thrive off of each other and each others ideas. Staying in certain colleges within school require a certain GPA; for example, to stay in the College of Business, you have to keep over a 3.25.

Class participation is very common at the University of Louisville. I'm in my Sophomore year and I've only had a few classes where professors have just lectured and not encouraged participation. It is also very easy to get in contact with your professors. Every professor I have had has been willing to help me and each walks away knowing my name. Currently, my major is Psychology and I love every bit of it! Before choosing my major, I took a wide array of classes and I can tell you, classes are great all across the board!

First of all, consider the size of Louisville. My guess is somewhere between fifteen and twenty thousand students. However, as I stated in a different question, there are only about 5,000 on campus. Academically, the biggest thing that shocked me is that the average student age is 27. Granted, I have only ever had four to five people in the entirety of my undergrad over the age of 23/24.
I am in the College of Education, and more specifically, Health and Human Performance (otherwise known as Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, etc). I am a transfer student from a very, very small school, so I feel as if I have a good sense of judgement when I say I was and still am pleasantly surprised that my profressors from Major courses (not general education courses), either knew at least my name or face.
The coolest thing for me is that I have had multiple professors who actually authored the book(s) that we used in class. It is nice to know Louisville employs ambitious teachers. My favorite class thus far had been Non-profit Sport. Not a class one can convince another to take based on the name, but the teacher is awesome.
As far as other students go, I most definitely think students are competitive, and in any theory or sociological discussions we had in class, many were not afraid to speak their mind. The best part of a big school is knowing there are many people who are like you, and yet many who have had very different experiences than you. Gives one a good sense of where they can learn something new and where they can find what's familiar to them.

The academics are excellent at the University of Louisville, students are very competitive and helpful simultaneously. I think that the staff and faculty understands needs vary from student to student and do what they can, within respect, to accommodate schedules and learning styles. Professors want their students to be successful! The rapport is throughout the campus is beautiful.

The professors I connected with definitely know who I am, and I've even hung out with some of the professors outside of class after the class ended. My favorite classes are definitely humanities cultural diversity classes as well as the challenging business school classes. I really disliked general education classes such as Biology, because there were 200 people per class, and you didn't get a personal experience. You really had to learn the material on your own. There are study groups all through the library, and REACH tutoring is free, and helpful. They hold special interest classes to supplement your education. I really wouldn't say students are competitive, because it's rare you'll see the same students twice in different classes, until you get to your core classes, like marketing specializations. The academic requirements are pretty easy, except for Speed School and College of Business. Both require strict GPA's, and lots of studying.

As a freshman or sophomore there will be some larger classes, but there are still enough smaller classes that you will not feel invisible. I was always in competition with the other students just because I needed a high GPA to get in to nursing school. Most students attend class on a daily basis, and this school loves study groups!! My favorite class was either Microbiology or Corrections in America. The worst classes I took were English 101 with Bruce Horner and Unity of Life with Stefan. You will come to realize that the professor teaching is just as important as the material being taught. They can truly make or break you.
