It is a great school with lots of opportunities. The campus is small and easily accessible with the farthest points being only 10 minutes away. The cafeteria and food seem well produced. The classes are smaller which helps student and the education is valuable and helpful.

Alayna - 11/02/2023

I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. My mom went to the University of Louisville until she fell pregnant with me and had to stop her education, I have always felt a connection with the university before I ever attended because of this. Besides the normal issues universities have like housing or the food being average, the University of Louisville is a pretty good school with a ton of resources and activities for students to attend. From the heavy sports activities to the 100-plus clubs on campus, I can't say I could ever be bored while attending the school. This is why I gave the school a 4 out of 5 stars, I think the other star could be added if the school was free to attend, but obviously, that will never happen but I'm the critic here after all!

Connor - 07/14/2022

Overall UofL is a pretty great college. Speed school can be very tough, but for getting your masters in 5 years with 3 paid co-ops, I believe it's totally worth it. I wish the calc classes required for speed school were not as complicated and ridiculous as they are, but now that I've gotten through most of the math classes, I'm starting to see the light on the other side.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

As a college student, I have become an academic perfectionist. I whole-heartedly dedicate myself to my school work because I am so passionate about what I am pursuing, a carrier in nurse practitioning. My college GPA shows that this subject is where I find myself. I believe most college students would say that they would tell their old selves to stay focused, work hard, and prepare for the work ahead of them. However, I would probably tell myself to explore the scholarly peaks of academia that I?ve never thought I was intelligent enough to reach. I would tell myself that, with discipline, I am ?smarter? than I think I am, and can do more than I thought I could. I would make sure my old self knew to take advantage of higher education because it is such an amazing privilege. To coast through college with a goal of mediocrity is cheating yourself and the world of the change they need.

  4. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I have only started here at University of Louisville so I can?t say much about the school. From what I have experienced so fare I am disappointed in the financial aid process where the School detaches itself from its student by panning them off to a website to solve the questions about needing help finding scholarships to help pay for tuition. My previous school didn?t do this and was more the ready to help you find a way to pay for school even if it meant staying after hours. I am hoping my first impression is wrong.

  8. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The University of Louisville's student life is what has appealed to me most. I truly enjoy the type of person that chooses to attend UofL. It seems almost a requirement at other schools to come from a wealthy family and be able to afford to wear high-end name brand items, whereas UofL students are so relaxed and don't get caught up in logos and what letters of the Greek alphabet you wear on your t-shirt. Greek life at UofL is one big family and nobody "gangs" up on organization.

  10. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

As a returning student, it becomes frustrating when public schools are closed, but the University is still open. It is difficult to bring a child to class due to the walk a young child must do, often in bad weather, to get to a classroom. It is frustrating there is only very limited on campus childcare which is often only available to faculty members. It is frustrating when young children get sick; the ability to obtain a recorded lecture from classmates is extremely difficult.

  16. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Hi I am Malik Dorsey, I have attended the University of Louisville for one year at the end of April, thus far I have had a year of a lifetime. I have experienced I believe to be the best year of my educational career. I have enjoyed my classes, and the experiences that I have had. I am majoring in music for now, but I have experienced an array of other classes to maybe give me other opportunities to maybe venture into other areas, or even explore other careers that I may be interested in. They have so much to offer here. If anyone decides to come and visit, I believe you will be amazed at the opportunities that are here.

  17. What are the academics like at your school?

Academics are like what you would find at any other school. What you put into them is what you get out of them. Classes require studying and effort, but it is a good learning environment. Most classes are no more than 25 students, unless large beginner level lectures, so teachers become personalized with all of their students. This also allows the class to thrive off of each other and each others ideas. Staying in certain colleges within school require a certain GPA; for example, to stay in the College of Business, you have to keep over a 3.25.

  18. Why did you decide to go to this school?

My dad works for the athletic department. It would have been foolish for me to pass up free tuition. Even though my decision was pretty much already made, I knew a lot of kids from my high school that were coming here. I am a huge U of L athletics fan, that also played a big role in my decision to come here.

  19. Tell us about your professors.

If there is one piece of advice I have about success in college, it is to USE YOUR PROFESSORS AS TOOLS! They are there to help you. Talk to them. Get to know them. Ask questions. It is easy to fall behind in college, but your professors are there to help if you come to them. I have went to see several professors after class, in office hours, or talked to them over e-mail. I promise, they aren't as intimidating as they may seem. They are real people, and they became professors for a reason. They want to help you be successful and mater the material. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, hesitate to talk to them. Besides, you will need a good relationship with them when it comes time for those pesky letters of rec, right?

  20. What are your classes like?

As a biology and philosophy double major, the classes I have taken are all across the board. I have taken a broad range of classes in the arts and sciences. Some have been large lectures, but others have been very small classes of about 15 students. Since you schedule classes yourself, it is up to you to decide what kind of class sizes fit your needs better. I have found that smaller classes are a lot more personal and you have a better opportunity to get to know the professors. As far as workload, it is a big difference from college. I was very successful in high school, and I am on scholarship at UofL. However, I still didn't feel prepared for how fast paced college classes are. It's definitely an adjustment, but once you learn how to manage your time, it gets much easier. I have also found that it is useful to take classes in the summer, if you are able to do so. It has allowed me to take harder classes and dedicate more time to them. It also has given me more credit hours, putting me ahead.

  21. What's the Greek scene like?

It's pretty big here on campus. One of the main ways that most student groups advertise here is by writing big messages using sidewalk chalk so that everyone who walks through that way will see it. It always seems like there's something scribbled on the sidewalk about one Greek organization or another having a party or doing a charity event. It isn't too obtrusive, though - for any student who really isn't into fraternities or sororities, you'll hear about them occasionally, but you won't feel very pressured to join them if you don't want to.
