The stereotypes that exist on campus are directed toward different parts of the campus. Each living area has its own stereotype. Otherwise, the stereotype from students that don't go to UMass assume that all the UMass kids could not get into private schools, seeing as though there are an abudance of them in the Northeast.
Nicole
People think that it's just a party school.
Laura
Everyone who lives in Southwest is the type of person who gets really dressed up for class everyday, wears Ugg boots and skirts and likes to go out a lot. Sylvan is full of antisocial people. Northeast is where all the Asians live. Orchard Hill is where all the book-smart people live. Central is where all the hippies live. North is a mix of all of them.
Hunter
The biggest one is that Umass is a party school. If you're an honors student from a high school where most people are going to private $40k+ schools, then it's supposedly the "easy school".
Nicole
Alcoholics, heavy partiers, never study, bitchy girls, bro dudes
Sarah
UMass Amherst is stereotyped as a major party school, with the nickname "ZooMass."
Charlie
The stereotypes usually go around drinking and partying also Violence and Riots.
CJ
The campus is largely divided based on living areas - southwest is considered to be the party and jock area, filled with bro-heads and biddies. central is art major/eccentric area i guess, orchard hill is for the grass loving, frisbee throwing dead heads, and northeast is for the brainiacs. The only thing that seems to bring these stereotypes together is the love of the sauce.
Amy
The number one thing people say when they hear UMass Amherst is that its a huge party school.
Kris
The students are very lazy and not very diligent. Umass Amherst is known to be party school.
Jake
Lots of parties and lots of heavy drinkers.
Greg
Students at UMass only care about drinking and getting blasted/hammered/wasted/shit faced/nailed/bombed/canned/loaded/toasted/sloshed/smashed
Nick
Speaking in terms of sterotypical views about UMass as a whole, and more specifically it's students, the school is generally placed in the category of a "party school", with many simply referring to it as "The Zoo".
Elizabeth
Because UMass is a state school, it gets a bad rap for being less academically presitgious. The students are supposedly lazy and uninterested in academics. We are also considered party animals, hence the name "Zoo Mass." In fact, there is an urban legend that each of the Five Colleges are based off of the characters from Scooby Doo. UMass is considered to be Scooby--the dumb, yet loveable mut.
Jennifer
It's just a party school & everyone here drinks all the time. It's a "back-up" school and people here are too dumb to get in anywhere good.
Evan
That everyone loves to party, and that U mass doesn't give a good education
Billy Pilgrim
Party school and alcoholics
Vanessa
One of the major stereotypes that surrounds UMass Amherst students is that they are all party animals. I know for a fact, as a Veterinary and Animal Science major, I was not a party animal. Another stereotype that surrounds UMass is that many of the students are a bunch of rich kids whose parents pay for everything. Again, I can attest this is not the case.
Brett
Umass Sterotypes are that this is a party school, and not well established in the buisness world. With both of these I disagree. It is true that alot of parties occur here but where do they not? There is 26,000 students here so of course there is going to be something to do every night. This school is very well established and I have got the best internships etc. being a student here. Umass Amherst students for girls are said to be a little to out their and sexually friendly, this is not the case. The diversity in this school is not scary and it opens your eyes to the outside world.

People think that we party all the time, skip class and live on a dangerous campus. I mean, look at our nickname: Zoomass.
