University of Nebraska-Lincoln Top Questions

The thing that I considered to be the worst thing about the college I attended my freshman year was probably the dining hall schedule. Of course, that's because I like to think with my stomach on most occasions. The dorm hall that I lived in had, what all of my friends and I considered to be the be, the best dining hall. Unfortunately, this dining hall wasn't open on the weekends and this left us to have to walk ALL the way over to the closest one- about a block away. Now, walking to another dining hall on the weekends would be fine- even in the winter- if it had good food, but this dining hall had the same food. Every. Weekend. At the beginning of the year we looked forward to nacho night and chicken wing night and even fajita night, but as the year went on it just felt repetitive. And though this dining hall had other options, none of the food was very good. There was greasy food, food that felt undercooked, food that felt overcooked, food we just didn't like, and more. Thankfully though, that was about the worst part of my experience at UNL.

The involvement of students outside of Greek life, because the students that wish to participate in campus activities either don't have the money or the activity they wish to do isn't advertised properly because the Greek houses taking most of the places that are eligible to advertise on.

The location. Football is huge here and when the stadium sells out every game. Seating 87,000 people on Game Day Memorial Stadium easily stands alone as the 3rd largest city in Nebraska. Mainly, the state is quite empty. Although the city Lincoln is right on campus the lack of other places to go and explore is what I find most disappointing in the school. Although lectures and books can take you far mentally, a car or campus bus there isn't much place to physically go.

The worst aspect of my college is the overall lack of consideration for high school accomplishments. In order to secure scholarhips from this school, the most important decision you can make is to take the ACT and score above a 28. GPA and service were never components of my application process and with my ACT scores their willingness to offer additional access to aid subsided.

As far as financial aid they do not do a very good job looking into an individuals situation. Just because the paper says your parents make okay money doesnt mean your parents are doing well. Especially when you have a large family life costs a lot. I feel like this school should look into a students background and see what kind of person they are so they can help people who actually care and stop giving money to those who dont. If I dont get scholarships I might have to take a year off of school which would be bad.

The worst thing about my school is the diversity. I wish the school was more diverse with more races, the black community takes up 2.5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the schools population and of that 1.7{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} are athletes. The asian community takes up around 3.2{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the schools population. I wish that could change to where we were more equal in numbers.

The worst thing about my school would have to be that it is so far away from my home. It is about a nine hour drive from my home city so I am only able to come home about twice a year.

Everyone is very closed off from their peers. This makes it hard to learn, study and socialize together.

The worst thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is that it is a rather undiverse school. The majority of the students are from small towns, which means they have not been exposed to very may cultures that are different from their own. This causes many of the students to be rather close minded.

I personally think the advisors at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln are not always very helpful. The previous advisor I had for my major, retired recently. Before he retired there was a lot of confusion to many other students as to what the proper answers were that we would be told, because we would always get different answers. One friend even said how she scheduled an appointment and she was only there for a few minutes and she gained nothing from the experience. I think the advising board could be changed a little to offer students more help.

Personally, the worst thing about St. Lawrence University is how the administration works. Everything you might might want to do, from taking five courses instead of four, to taking an independent study class, involves mountains (or at least hills) of paperwork. Also, the administration is very stingy in granting credit for taking classes elsewhere. For example, taking a one credit course at another university, gives only about 0.86 credits at St. Lawrence.

The cost, I do not have alot of money give out more scholarships to people who take on line coureses not just the ones on campus.

The campus is all close together so you have to walk everywhere. In a lot of places the sidewalks are cracked and unlevel so you have to watch your step!

The worst thing about my school is that it is located in a cold climate during the winter.

There lacks a true sense of school spirit and timeless traditions. For as old as our university is, there seems to be nothing that connects our past to the present, and this is coming from someone who has had family attend the university. I cannot imagine what it would be like to come in truly as a new student with no prior connection or affiliation. There does not appear to be anything that sets the university apart.

The professors that cannot communicate with the students because of language barriers. It is hard for us to learn and understand them when they do not speak English, like most of the students here.

The price of the school is very hard to deal with. For out-of-state students the tution is really high and financial aid does not always cover it all. They do not give you much notice on how much is due before it is due.

The worst thing is probably the perception of those outside the school, and perspective employers outside of the area. The University of Nebraska gives a very thorough education, but that may not be perceived with Nebraska's "reputation".

The worst thing about my school is the parking. It is very hard and frustrating to find parking in someplaces around campus.
