Describe the students at University of New Hampshire-Main Campus.

Marya

The student body is very diverse at UNH. We have people from all over the UNited States. Unlike some people think, we do not only have students from New Hampshire.

Juliann

UNH is a very diverse student body. I have had interactions with many different races, religions, etc. I'm not sure of a student that would feel out of place at UNH. Students wear all different clothing to class. It ranges from sweat pants and pajamas, to jeans and sweatshirts, to dressy clothes and heals. I feel that politics plays a hige role on this campus. I know that the political clubs have trouble fundraising and getting support from the student body. I've heard that conservatives are the "minority" here on campus, but I'm not sure if its true. I haven't experienced a converstaion where someone was talking about how much they earned that day.

Morgan

earthy, loves to wear sweatpants, relaxed, laid back

Kristin

Most UNH students are from the new england area. A lot of students recieve scholarships to come to unh whether it is for sports or for academics. There are a lot of different types of students that go to UNH, religiously and racially and they all have their own views of the campus as I do. I do not know what the four types of students are at the dinning halls for I do not eat there as much as I do at my own apartment. Most students are from the middle class range I would say, with a few below and above as well.

Lauren

There is a large variety of what students wear to class that ranges from dress pants, heels, and a blouse to sweatpants and a sweatshirt and even in some cases pajama pants. I think each student has their good and bad days dress wise but the point is that everyone has them and there isn't any judgment.

Jessica

We have a very diverse campus, there are every type of people here. There are preppy, gothic, skater, then people from differecnt religious and racial backgrounds. The advantage of having such a diverse campus is there are always going to be people simillar to you and what you like to do.

Erica

I do not like how out of state students pay so much more than instate students. I do not really see too many conflicts between race or religion. For the most part, UNH students are accepting and open to diversity.

kristin

Not a very diverse campus, financial backgrounds differ. Most students from New Hampshire or Mass.

christine

There are many different groups at UNH. I think that we all complement and support eachother by being accepting of our differences.

Meaghan

I belive that most people that go to UNH are W.A.S.Ps and I think there are good and bad things to that. I know there is some diversity but I also feel like those people are cut off and not mixed in through the system. I belive many students are politically aware but also ignorant about other areas of the country and the world.

Erica

Students seem to be very laid back and down to earth type of people

Kristin

UNH is socially accepting. There is always something for someone!

Jess

I think minority students may feel out of place at UNH because it is a predominately white campus. Most students are from NH or MA and most of the people I know come from wealthy or well-off families. Students are predominately liberal, although there are some conservatives. Yes, I feel that different types of students interact here.

Katrina

There is not a lot of diversity at UNH. The majority of students are caucasians and from New England suburbs. I think an African American may feel out of place at UNH. Most students wear jeans and a t-shirt to class. However, students are very diverse in personality. Everyone has different views socially, politically and religiously.

Christofer

UNH is a hugely diverse school. We have organizations specifically for various races, religious groups, hobbies, interests, and nearly any walk of life. There is a very strong and present LGBT group, a Black Student Union, and the Diversity Support Coalition. These groups work to make students more aware of the diversity on their campus through events, lecture series, film screenings, and music. It's no lie that bias incidents do happen on campus, but they aren't just swept under a rug. Residential Life compiles all the bias incidents (posters, signs, graffiti, pictures) and add them to a gallery that students can observe. The gallery is there so students know it is happening and that it is not okay. Seeing the incidents in one presentation really opens your eyes and lets you know what's really going on in people's minds. So, while there are students on campus who feel the urge to make others feel inferior, there is a group willing to fight back and stand up. I think that's incredible. I don't think any type of person would feel out of place at UNH once they find their niche. The people who have trouble "fitting in" are usually the ones who aren't trying hard enough to find an organization that suits them best. It's your own fault if you're bored at UNH: there is just so much to choose from!

Ashley

I do not think that there is too much diversity at UNH, but there is some. I don't think there's a specific type of student that would feel out of place at UNH, maybe someone from a different country. Most students wear casual clothes to class, jeans or sweatpants. I think the majority of UNH students are from the New England area, although some are far farther away. Most students that I know have a dependable financial background, their parents are paying for them to go to school. Some students are politcally aware, I am not so it's hard for me to say what other people are because I don't attend any events with politics.

Katrina

I am a member of Alpha Phi sorority, so I am closely related to all whoa re in the greek system. I dont have many experiences with racial of other economic backgrounds. I feel as though many people are the same yet different here on campus. I mean there are a lot of different groups, likes, dislikes, but all students knwo they are in new hampshire in the rural areas for people are able to dress comfortably casual through out the year. Sweats and jeans are always around. I feel as though many students are from new hampshire or massachusetts where most people are aware of where others live and their surroundings.

Erika

Love the dining hall.

Stacy

there little diversity

Erica

Greek like has made an inpact on me because without it I would not have attented many events and met a lot of other organizations on this campus that are really great.
