There is a lot of school pride, which a lot of people are surprised at considering our lack of a football team ( I could care less about football. I date a girl at a big football school and every other weekend it seems like the city is crammed with drunks and I have to park a mile away on top of a mountain). It's a big school during the day but it feels smaller at night since we have so many commuter or off campus students. I've worked with the administration and they do a pretty good job of keeping people happy. Housing can have issues, but if you're on top of things and not doing it last minute you're fine.
The problem is always being compared to chapel hill. We've been here just as long and have a much nicer campus. We have solid academics but apparently they are just the bees knees because they are less diverse and have a football team. We have trees and a campus layout that makes sense, with buildings that don't look like the soviet bloc.

I would say the best thing about UNCG is the size of the classes. They are just the right size where the teacher will know your name and will be able to talk after class or e-mail as much as possible. And they are extremely willing to help. Alot of them want you to pass and actually care about teaching. The size is just right. Most of the time when I am on campus I am in the computer lab. It is really convenient especially because I didn't have internet where I lived. It is open really late during finals and I used every minute of it. The most frequent student complaint would definetly be parking. The parking pass prices are outrageous and half the time you cannot find a spot. They do have a lot of pride, since we do not have a football team alot of students went to the boys soccer games dressed as if it were a football game, it was exciting.

I LOVE UNCG. My department (English Education) rocks. All my professors are very helpful. Our campus is beautiful and it's not too large. I've never had a problem getting to class on time. Greensboro isn't much of a "college town." There are 5 schools in the city and they're all very spread out. Our downtown has some fun clubs, but the students never really feel like they have it all to themselves.

Good school. Student health center is run by idiots.

Best thing about UNCG would be that once you get into your program you know most everyone. You will always see a familiar face when you go on campus. If you are looking for a huge school with a lot of school pride UNCG is not the place to come, go to Carolina or State. If you are from a small town you won't feel to overwhelmed here. We do have a night life here, down town Greensboro has a lot of clubs and bars and Greensboro has a lot of other colleges so down town is usually very busy, especially on Thursdays. The most frequent complaint by students would be there is not enough parking which is very very very true. Thats why they should make it so freshmen can't drive, a lot of colleges do that and not only would it solve the parking problem it would stop so many people from going home on the weekends which would bring more life to UNCG during the weekend.

The best thing about UNCG is the campus. UNCG has a real family environment. The campus is big enough, but it feels like everything is close by. Downtown Greensboro is only a few blocks away, filled with interesting shops and delicious restaurants. The teachers and staff at UNCG are very friendly, and I have never had any trouble finding help when I needed it. I feel like UNCG is my home.

The size of the campus and population is just right, not too big nor too small. The best part about UNCG is the diversity of the student body and the value students recieve for their tuition. If the school had a football team, then the pride would increase by tenfold.Parking is the worse at UNCG; unless you arrive before 7 am, there is no parking space available on campus.

I really wish UNCG had safer surroundings. People react nice when i say i go to UNCG. If you like soccer, you'll have school pride.

Bad school in a good city! It's just that simple!!

UNCG isnt the best (as opposed to UNC Chapel Hill) so nobody gets excited when you say where you go. It is a great deal for the money, the education is actually really good...the teachers are also really caring/helpful. It is a large college town, bc there are like 4 colleges nearby...Bennett, Greensboro College, NC A&T and UNCG. There's not a football team, but our baseball and soccer teams are pretty good. UNCG's nickname is UNCGay...but I think most colleges have lots of wierd ppl and also gay ppl. There are a lot of black people, and the town/college are suprisingly racial (for 2008). There are "black" parties and "white" parties and clubs. Don't get them confused! LOL. The housing situation is improving rapidly, its getting a lot more off-campus options, which is great! UNCG is also known as a "suitcase school"...as in many ppl. leave every single weekend and live in a dorm "out of their suitcase"...many people live in the small towns about 30 mins. from Gboro and go home to work every weekend. If you get to know ppl who stay, its not so bad.

School Size is good. The reaction is not negative more positive because I am in college. I spend most of my time in class or in the library. No we are not a college town. Admin is decent but there is more emphasis in certain areas than others. ie sports has veyr little admin support. controversy??? There is a lot of gay pride. I will always remember the variety of people. Parking, sports, book prices, a/c in the dorms

I really like size of UNCG. It's a big campus, but not too big. Also, it's really pretty and the landscaping is nice to look at while you're walking to class. People usually seem pretty impressed when I tell them I go here. I don't do any extra curricular activites on campus, although you can tell the ones who do have a lot of fun. I work a lot, therefore, I don't have the time. There are many things to get involved with though, not only sports, but several clubs and such. UNCG students have a lot of school pride. Also, we wear uncg apparel a lot. There are all kinds of different people at UNCG. There are different races, religions, and differerent "stereotypical" groups. This means you are always going to meet new people and be engaged with different types you may not be used to. UNCG is a really great place to go to school.

The best thing about UNCG-- the campus. The campus is "the" college campus I pictured myself on when I imagined going to college. The school is constantly finding ways to improve it, the architecture and landscaping is continually upgraded in someway and it's the picturesque college campus, and you can still make it from one side of campus to the other in ten minutes. As for staff and professors, I have yet to find a professor or TA that wasn't willing to help me outside of class until I genuinely understood a concept & was never made to feel like I shouldn't ask for help or that it was a inconvience. There are some classes at UNCG that have required "service learning" aka volunteer work--initially I didn't like this but you realize alot of things about the community & yourself after these experiences. I can say now that I've learned things that will benefit me for the rest of my life and that's one aspect of UNCG being a liberal school that comes out most--trying to sincerely make you a well rounded person, not just a well informed student of academics.
This is definitely a "college town" for the fact there's 6 colleges/universities in Greensboro and when you finally reach over 21, downtown is like a playground for nightlife. Overall, for my in state choice, I wouldn't have chosen another school to go to.

I hate it here. There is nothing good about UNCG. Coming here was a truly horrible decision that I will forever regret making. This is absolutely not a college-esque town and Tate Street....c'mon, seriously? They might as well demolish it and make a huge parking lot out of it because it is completely useless. I loathe how we are smack-dab in the middle of a particularly disgusting part of town. I don't feel safe here. School pride is unseen and unheard of. The caf smells like barf and tastes like it too. UNCG is a disappointment.
Ryan
I would like for more black students to apply here. It is a great school with lots of opportunities.

I really enjoy going to UNCG. It is a nice school with a pretty campus, good majors, it's very diverse, and there's always something too do in Greensboro. I like the size of UNCG. There aren't too many people, but there are definitely enough to meet lots of new people. If I could change anything it would probably be that we would get a football team. I think that would incorporate more school pride. As for the administration, the people who really affect you is whoever is in charge of your major. I am an Exercise and Sport Science major and everyone is very nice, but I have no idea about other majors. The things I will always remember are events that took place while I was just hanging out with friends. like after we ate some of a cookie cake we had a fight with the left over icing.
Diane
I think that the best part of UNCG is the opportunity to meet new people.
emily
i think the campus is pretty, and i really like my classes. i wish it was a little bigger though. most people act like its not a big deal when i tell them where i go, or theyve never heard of it. i spend most of my time in the hhp and my dorm. there seems to be quite a bit of school pride. still wish we had a football team though.
Josh
UNCG is a great campus. Its big enough to have different people to hang out with if you want but small enough to not be another number and check to the school. Everything is within close proximity to one another and the teachers really get to know the students within the major and really enjoy helping them.
Court
its a perfect size. when people tell them i go to uncg, they think its the tarheels, i spend most of my time on the tennis courts, its a good college town since we are close to downtown, i like the uncg adminiistration, biggest contreversy is that there is not enough boys, i think there could be ALOT more school pride, nothing unusual, the davidson match sophmore year i will always remember, sometimes the teachers don't teach what they test us on.
