Utah State University Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Sean

I wish I had developed better study habits, and understood better how to do college level work.

Toshia

I wish I would have known how wonderful the professors really are. They care so much about their students and will do anything in their power to help whoever they can with any challenge that student faces whether it is school related or not. Their favorite thing to do as professors is to just get to know the students as a person rather than just seeing their faces during class.

Steven

I wish I would have had a plan on what I wanted to do for a career. It would have saved me a lot of time and effort in speaking with academic advisors and others. Other than having made a decision for a career, I felt pretty prepared on coming to Utah State University. The help and advising here helped me as a freshman feel prepared for what I would be experiencing in the coming years.

Brooklen

I wish I would have known more about Logan. I wish that i would have known different places to go to do fun things and hang out, I feel like I would have had a little bit more fun.

Shawn

I wish I had known what it takes to do well in a college level course, also how to make new friends when you know no one. These would have been a huge help to me.

Camree

How cold it was going to be!

Ayla

How at home the college will make you feel. Everyone there is so friendly and opened to making you feel at home. Most of the students who attend Utah State are from out of state, so everyone has a great understanding of how big of a change it is. Theres so much to see and people to meet that you would begin to feel right at home.

Lindsey

I wish I had known my family better before I came to school. I am not from Utah so I do not get to go home very often, which means that I do not get to see my family very often. You don't realize how much you take your familiy for granted when you live at home because they are always there. I wish I had served my family a little more, said I love you a little more, verbally complimented them a little more, and cherished the moments with my loved ones more.

Lindsey

I was so excited to come to college. That is until the night before I moved here. I was moving in with all girls I didn't know, I was moving to a new state I was unfamiliar with, and I was scared of the unkown! I wish I would have known that everything was going to be alright. Coming here with no one I knew was the best decision I have ever made! I have made lots of new friends, had crazy adventures, my roommates are awesome, and I have loved the university.

Marissa

I wish I had known about the housing system. I think I would have chosen different housing if I had known more about logan.

Richard

Although they have a lot of history classes listed many are only taught every couple of years, if at all.

Katie

I wish I had known more about how things on campus worked. I didn't know anything about food plans or housing or where I could go to eat on campus or where to mail a letter. I also wish I had known more about student government and clubs and organizations I could get involved in. They provided a list of these things but it didn't really tell me how to apply or what to expect.

Kjersti

I wish that I knew about and had better prepared for the research opportunities so that I could get started into it sooner, because it's super accessible to undergrads but I feel like I should have prepared more. I also wish that I'd spent more time applying for scholarships.

Kristin

I wish I had known more about the resources on campus. I lived on-campus my first two years, but I had no idea about the career center or health services that they offer. I wish I had gone to them sooner because they've helped a lot.

Rebecca

I wished I would of known to go to ratemyprofessor.com. Utah state has some really amazing professors, but no university is perfect. Ratemyprofessor is a great place to see what other students think of professors and they give some great hints on how to do well in the class. I took an ecology class my spring semester, it took me until my final to look at the website to get a great idea on how to study for the final. It helped me go from a C in that class to finishing with an A.

Devyn

The campus is amazingly beautiful, the school has a wonderful atmosphere, but the weather is absolutely freezing. Everyone said it would be really cold, but I didn't think it could ever be THIS bad. I am constantly frozen.

Carlee

There are quite a few things i wish i would have known before attending college. First would be to get classes that are harder done first. Its true most of us dont know what we are going to do with the rest of our lives but take a class that gives you an idea of what your major includes. That way you can deside half way through your first year and not two years down the road. Next, that friends come and go hang in there and get involved. Lastly; save, save, save, and save it really helps!

Emily

College life is what you make it! It is not always what you see on t.v. If you want to have a great experience you have to get out and find it. Especially in Logan, Utah. I know alot of people who have wasted their experiences by just staying in their dorm rooms and not getting out. You're in college, make the most of it! Get involved! Go to as many on campus activities that you can! If you want to have fun you have to go out and find it.

Lori

How cold it is in the winters!

Debbie

How to balance living away from home and trying to do well as a student! There is a lot of work in college that you hear about in High School but I did not understand it until I got here.
