Advice I would give myself as a high school senior is this. Meiona start applying now to getting into a great college that will help you become the best to be successful. Get a job and start saving to help get a jump start of your college experience. the paper work will be hard but you have to complete it on time and it is very important. College life so far is grest. You have great friends and you are with the person you love. Going to college is going to help you succed in life and become the future Doctor you want to be. You will make your mothe and Family proud, you will also be missing them alot but its worth it. College isn't so bad the class are more challenging but it will all pay off in the end. Keep working hard through your senior year and come out at your best. Becoming a doctor is your dream and fullfiling that dream will be amazing. No one will do it for you they can only help you along the way. Dont ever give up , fight through it. Theres no greater feeling then feeling successful in life.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would tell myself that I really need to buckle down and continue to work hard. I would also tell myself to explore my options at different schools other than Voorhees College and not to spend all that money in senior items. And because I am a somewhat quiet person I would tell myself to break out of that and get to know people because boredom brings curiosity and sadness. Also, i would tell myself not to take any pity from anyone and do not ride people in my vehicle that I do not know or trust. My advice is to myself would be "to be smart and never let anyone bring you down". That is what i would tell myself if I could go back in time to talk to myself as a high school senior.

Knowing what I know now as a college student, I would tell myself as a high school senior to take all the time necessary before deciding on a college. I would also tell myself to get as high of a GPA as possible and explore all options available after graduation.

The advise I would give myself is first and foremost always stay true to yourself, never let your environment define who you are. Next, take time and get to know people before you call anyone your friend because majority of these people will just use you and take your kindness for weakness. But above all keep God first in everything you every do. Pray every morning He allows you to wake up and every night that He allows you to have made it through without any harm. Build a great reputation with the faculty and staff because they will help guide you through school and with them you could have greater internships or employment opportunities ( you never know who they know). Lastly, have self-discipline. In college you are responsible for yourself, so know when you can afford to go out and have fun and when you have to stay in to study or finish your work.

Assuming I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would have told myself to apply for colleges and scholarships at the begining of the school year. If I could have went back I also would have told myself to get help on things about colleges and play a bigger role as a citizen in my community. If I could have told myself these things I would have been a very prepared freshman at Voorhees College.

What I have gotten out of this college experience so far as an undergraduate college freshman is a wide awakening to what some may call the "real world." College has taught me to become more organized, more aware of my surroundings and the opprtunities out there and a the seperation from a little girl to a woman. College has broaden my horizons to new heights and new discoveries of all kinds of people that you might not get the chance to experience just by walking past an individual on a day to day bases. The experience is one to remember for years to come and extremely valuable due to the fact that I took a leap of faith to go on and futher my education and make something out of yourself. I also vlue the fact that as a first generation student it builds self confidence and assures you that anything can happen and dreams can come true through hard work and perseverance. I last but not least value what we Voorhees College (VC) students like to call that "Tiger Pride."

My College expericene has really allowed me to change the way i look at society. I barely made it out of high school and as a result was unable to get into the college i desired. I ended up spending a year outside of school working at a local subway. Finally one day i had enough and visited Housatonic community college. Everyone there was so helpful and it gave a completely different vibe than anything i've ever felt before. Everyone there WANTED to be there. They just wanted to learn. There was young and old learning together smiling and laughing. Sometimes even crying when the semester drew o a close. College isnt something to just go to because its the right thing to do. I've learned that its a powerful thing that can bring grown men to tears getting a degree or have an old man listen to a teen about study styles so that he can retain information better. As i leave to UConn now i will never forget what i felt at hcc. And can only hope to be writing this about UConn in a year's time.

Attending an HBCU has been the most liberating experience of my life. I say this because I came from a very diverse high school and grew up in a majority white neighborhood. I had no idea that life in Denmark, SC would be so different from the life I was so accustomed to. My first semester at college I made friends and lost them, I made mistakes and learned from them, and I lost control of who I was for awhile. Although my grades were excellent my first year, I still had a hard time adjusting just like any other freshman. The first semester of my sophomore year came around and it was then that I began to find myself again. I began getting more involved, praying more, and contemplating hard about what the future would hold for me. I began to feel that I could do anything I set my mind to and that I was going to be different. I told myself that this is the time to start making things count. With that realization, I came to the conclusion that I'm at Voorhees College for a reason and I plan to do my best here.

I have gotten out of my college experience is an education that have prepared me to become competitive with other college graduates of my peers and a degree which will allow me to be marketable in my chose field of Organizational Management and a foundation for me to continue to pursue my Master's degree in the Fall 2011. It has been valuable to attend Voorhees College, Denmark, SC because the program of study has allowed me to continue to work and raise my two daughters. My education is priceless and will open the career doors of opportunity for me. I hope the value of service Voorhees College has given me will afford another the same opportunity.

College Life is hard and nothing like high school. The first couple of day of class was awsome and thought that college was easy and that all my teachers made it seem hard. I was all about living life and not caring that much about school. I would never do anything in my classes just enough to pass the class. Doing homework and studying were two thinkgs that I was not good at. Once finals came , I found myself in a perdicament where i didnot know how to study and I was stressed out. I ended up failing the first semester but the next semester I was determined to get higher grades. Sitting down and reading a text book is harder said than done, I found out that studing for me was not going to be easy. Time managment was something I also had to learn for the second semester. Learning how to manage time and learn how to study were things I had to master fast in order to be successful in college.

I have gotten alot out of Voorhees College. I have learn that if I really want to achieve my goals, I have to stay focus at all times. During the years here at Voorhees College I found out that no one has to be afraid to ask for any kind of help. Meaning when a student is having a problem with his or her assignments, the school recommend that your seek help from a tutor or the professors. I have also learn that there's nothing wrong with making friends with someone from a different race . Voorhees College has really grown on me and I approciate everyone here.

Learning is an everyday experience and something new is learned every day. By attending Voorhees College, I have learned how to be more responsible, met new people, and learned time managment skills.
Coming to college in a whole different state taught me how to be more responsible and independent. Usually I would rely on my mother to wake me up to get ready and be on time for school or for someone in the family to push me to get my assignments complete, but coming to college made me realize that they were no longer there to tell me what was needed to get done and I have now transformed into a responsible young lady, finishing my freshman year with a 3.8 and barely missing a day of class.
I have also met a variety of new people, which allowed me to work on my communication skills and allowed me to become active in activities around campus and meet professors who can provide me with great references in the future.
Lastly, I have learned time management skills which have helped me with keeping track of special due dates and study times.
Being in college is valuable especially for learning.

During my matriculation into Voorhees College, I have been obtained many valuable lessons. Overall the most important lesson I attained was: independence. Common to most Undergraduate freshmen, entering college and no longer being under their parent’s watch and constant guidance can be a scary thing. As a first time freshmen maybe the greatest lesson I’ve learned has been independence. Once I realized that I no longer had my mother and father to carry my hand, I made it up in my mind that I would find a way to thrive by myself. Being independent required me to become particularly efficient in time management. As a student I had to make sure that during those frequent periods of no class or meetings, I had to be doing something productive whether it was studying, researching, or even resting.
In addition, also common to students was working without having to follow our parent’s specified budget. Work-study however proved to be a great responsibility for me to realize what needed to be a priority in my spending. Overall college has led me to changing so many aspects of my life; to adjust to this newfound independence required ample personal growth.

Voorhees College has been my backbone for the past 3 years. I have made friends with people I would have never otherwise, and even have had the opportunity to call some people family. Outside of that, however, Voorhees has brought even more than I could possibly imagine. It has afforded me a plethora of opportunities to get out into the community and help someone other than myself. I have also been able to meet influential people in the community and VC has definitely reared me academically to be the best that I can be. My professors challenge me with every assignment to stay ahead of the competition so that I may remain at the top. I believe that Voorhees is preparing me for the future to the best of its ability. I has been valuable to attend this institution because without my education I would be nothing and the opportunities I have recieved here are so much more than I would have recieved anywhere else.

I am currently attending Voorhees College, which is a four year college. I have only completed one year so far, however, I have learned and gotten a lot out of my college experience. Since I’ve been in college I have realized that by attending college that there are a lot of things I can accomplish if I put my mind, and heart in to it. After completing my first year, I’ve felt a sense of accomplishment, and it gave me a spark to finish college. I am currently taking classes that ties into my major, and it has gave me a sense of job security. I now feel as if I could take on any job and out shines all other competitors. During my college experience; I’m learning that I could take care of myself, as well as be on my own. . I have learned how to be independent. Attending college is very valuable. I have built great friendships, which have allowed me to network. I have been able to volunteer, which has open many doors for me. The most valuable thing about attending college is that it provides many opportunities.

I have learned a lot of new things in college and enjoy it because I know that it is for my best and for my future. I will be the first in my family to complete college and head on to the university. My parents are very excited but can't afford to send me to college so I seek any opportunity to be able to pay my school and get my career. That's why I am applying for this scholarship.

I have gotten the chance to grow. When your miles away from home there is no one but you. You much help yourself and by doing that you will learn how to grow into an individual. I have went from a seed that my parents planted into a beautiful flower that just keeps growing. With the right care that i do for myself helps me grow each and every day. Also life is a process that everyone must grow though and I growing one day at a time. As long as I keep my focus on God, education and me, I know that I will grow into some better than the ones before me.
Brittini
The things that i have gotten so far out of my college experience is that not everyone is going to like you so you just can not sweat that because even though you make a name for yourself whether it be good or bad you also are here for your education. With that being said you can not give into everything everyone says you have to also follow your gut not everyone one campus is going to be your friend some will set you on the wrong path because you are new or a freshman so do not lose yourself when you get here be yourself all the time that you are here. You should not portray yourself as oters want to see you protray yourself as you want to be seen.

Attending Voorhees College has made me become more of a man, more independent, serious towards my career, and made me aware of all the oppurtunities available out there in the world. It is very valuable to attend any college to better ones self to where he/she will be able to see the finner things in life; and explore the world. Before coming to school I was never serious about my future, but wghen I attended Voorhees College they grabbed me intsantly and tossed a lot of oppurtunities my way.The help is here, nothing is easy but with the grace of God we can do all things through Christ. Voorhees is a Episcopal College with brought me closer to God and I've gotten to be more focused since coming to Voorhees. Lastly, its valuable to attend because I personally think If a person gets successful can grab a person and that person can grab someone, so on and so on.
Thank You, Darrion Lemon
