College Life is hard and nothing like high school. The first couple of day of class was awsome and thought that college was easy and that all my teachers made it seem hard. I was all about living life and not caring that much about school. I would never do anything in my classes just enough to pass the class. Doing homework and studying were two thinkgs that I was not good at. Once finals came , I found myself in a perdicament where i didnot know how to study and I was stressed out. I ended up failing the first semester but the next semester I was determined to get higher grades. Sitting down and reading a text book is harder said than done, I found out that studing for me was not going to be easy. Time managment was something I also had to learn for the second semester. Learning how to manage time and learn how to study were things I had to master fast in order to be successful in college.

I have gotten alot out of Voorhees College. I have learn that if I really want to achieve my goals, I have to stay focus at all times. During the years here at Voorhees College I found out that no one has to be afraid to ask for any kind of help. Meaning when a student is having a problem with his or her assignments, the school recommend that your seek help from a tutor or the professors. I have also learn that there's nothing wrong with making friends with someone from a different race . Voorhees College has really grown on me and I approciate everyone here.

Learning is an everyday experience and something new is learned every day. By attending Voorhees College, I have learned how to be more responsible, met new people, and learned time managment skills. Coming to college in a whole different state taught me how to be more responsible and independent. Usually I would rely on my mother to wake me up to get ready and be on time for school or for someone in the family to push me to get my assignments complete, but coming to college made me realize that they were no longer there to tell me what was needed to get done and I have now transformed into a responsible young lady, finishing my freshman year with a 3.8 and barely missing a day of class. I have also met a variety of new people, which allowed me to work on my communication skills and allowed me to become active in activities around campus and meet professors who can provide me with great references in the future. Lastly, I have learned time management skills which have helped me with keeping track of special due dates and study times. Being in college is valuable especially for learning.

During my matriculation into Voorhees College, I have been obtained many valuable lessons. Overall the most important lesson I attained was: independence. Common to most Undergraduate freshmen, entering college and no longer being under their parent’s watch and constant guidance can be a scary thing. As a first time freshmen maybe the greatest lesson I’ve learned has been independence. Once I realized that I no longer had my mother and father to carry my hand, I made it up in my mind that I would find a way to thrive by myself. Being independent required me to become particularly efficient in time management. As a student I had to make sure that during those frequent periods of no class or meetings, I had to be doing something productive whether it was studying, researching, or even resting. In addition, also common to students was working without having to follow our parent’s specified budget. Work-study however proved to be a great responsibility for me to realize what needed to be a priority in my spending. Overall college has led me to changing so many aspects of my life; to adjust to this newfound independence required ample personal growth.

Voorhees College has been my backbone for the past 3 years. I have made friends with people I would have never otherwise, and even have had the opportunity to call some people family. Outside of that, however, Voorhees has brought even more than I could possibly imagine. It has afforded me a plethora of opportunities to get out into the community and help someone other than myself. I have also been able to meet influential people in the community and VC has definitely reared me academically to be the best that I can be. My professors challenge me with every assignment to stay ahead of the competition so that I may remain at the top. I believe that Voorhees is preparing me for the future to the best of its ability. I has been valuable to attend this institution because without my education I would be nothing and the opportunities I have recieved here are so much more than I would have recieved anywhere else.

I have learned a lot of new things in college and enjoy it because I know that it is for my best and for my future. I will be the first in my family to complete college and head on to the university. My parents are very excited but can't afford to send me to college so I seek any opportunity to be able to pay my school and get my career. That's why I am applying for this scholarship.

I have gotten the chance to grow. When your miles away from home there is no one but you. You much help yourself and by doing that you will learn how to grow into an individual. I have went from a seed that my parents planted into a beautiful flower that just keeps growing. With the right care that i do for myself helps me grow each and every day. Also life is a process that everyone must grow though and I growing one day at a time. As long as I keep my focus on God, education and me, I know that I will grow into some better than the ones before me.

The things that i have gotten so far out of my college experience is that not everyone is going to like you so you just can not sweat that because even though you make a name for yourself whether it be good or bad you also are here for your education. With that being said you can not give into everything everyone says you have to also follow your gut not everyone one campus is going to be your friend some will set you on the wrong path because you are new or a freshman so do not lose yourself when you get here be yourself all the time that you are here. You should not portray yourself as oters want to see you protray yourself as you want to be seen.

Attending Voorhees College has made me become more of a man, more independent, serious towards my career, and made me aware of all the oppurtunities available out there in the world. It is very valuable to attend any college to better ones self to where he/she will be able to see the finner things in life; and explore the world. Before coming to school I was never serious about my future, but wghen I attended Voorhees College they grabbed me intsantly and tossed a lot of oppurtunities my way.The help is here, nothing is easy but with the grace of God we can do all things through Christ. Voorhees is a Episcopal College with brought me closer to God and I've gotten to be more focused since coming to Voorhees. Lastly, its valuable to attend because I personally think If a person gets successful can grab a person and that person can grab someone, so on and so on. Thank You, Darrion Lemon
