8 colleges too beautiful to leave over summer break By Unigo
Are you looking for a chill, vibrant place to hang out this summer? Or maybe you’re getting ready to visit a few colleges? Check out these eight college campuses so beautiful you won’t want to go home!
1. Lewis & Clark College, Portland, OR
Only 20 minutes from the heart of downtown Portland, this small liberal arts college sits atop a hill with a magnificent view of majestic Mt. Hood. Lewis and Clark College is adjacent to the lush forests of Tryon Creek State Park, which runs through a section of the campus. Summers here are vibrantly green, thanks to the frequent rainfall throughout the rest of the year.
2. Kenyon College, Gambier, OH
The Gothic architecture and aged trees lining the campus pathways bring this college to life during the summer. Every building on the campus has its own character, and students can always find a peaceful spot to lie on the grass and read a book under the sun.
3. Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA
If you want to get close to the Pacific Ocean this summer, you can’t get much closer than Pepperdine University. In addition to stunning ocean views, the campus boasts numerous gardens, including the Heroes Garden, which commemorates those who lost their lives on 9/11.
4. Colgate University, Hamilton, NY
Though almost every building on this campus is made of stone, the nearby lakes and abundant trees scattered throughout the campus create a warm, inviting environment. Colgate University provides a relaxed, comfortable spot for students to read books and hang out during the warm summer days.
5. Princeton University, Princeton, NJ
As one of the oldest campuses in America, Princeton University’s Victorian Gothic architecture keeps the campus feeling eternally authentic. A popular destination on the campus is Prospect Garden, which contains native and exotic plants, helping to create a lush landscape.
6. University of California, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, CA
Not only does this campus have sand and surf, but it’s also surrounded by an incredible redwood forest. UC Santa Cruz is a paradise for students who love the outdoors. In addition to hiking, swimming, and windsurfing, there are underground caves for spelunkers to explore, and sea caves you can kayak through.
7. University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Looking for mountains? Well, they’re not hard to find on this campus. Clear summer skies make it even easier to see views of the Olympic Mountains, Mount Rainier, and the Cascade Range on the university’s already naturally beautiful campus. As an extra bonus, downtown Seattle is only about 10 minutes away.
8. University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, CA
Resting between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, UC Santa Barbara is one of only a handful of U.S. universities to have its own beach, at which students can often be found playing Frisbee and volleyball during the summer. The campus is also conveniently located only 15 minutes from some of the most striking hiking trails in California. Apparently, the students aren’t too bad-looking either.
