College can be a stressful experience. You will be juggling multiple classes, relationship issues, and, maybe even, work-related challenges. That’s why it is so important to know some tips on getting organized to establish good study habits. Getting organized is the key to making sure you are achieving everything you desire.
Procrastinating can be a detriment to your college studies. Margot Bell, associate director of student development at the University of British Columbia, states, “Starting to study early is critical to your success for so many reasons — it allows you to strategically map out your time.”
Below are a few great studying tips and tips on getting organized to help you achieve academic success.
1. Designate a Study Space
Studying tip number one, identify a specific place for you to study and have your supplies and materials readily available at that spot. Your space should be a quiet area with little or no distractions. When it’s time to study, you know where to go automatically.
2. Organize Homework Assignments
Which tasks will take more time? Prioritize your assignments by deadlines. This is a common studying tip. Also, use colors to coordinate the course materials. You may desire to divide subjects into separate binders.
3. Keep a Master Calendar
Buy a calendar today! You can purchase either a wall or pocket calendar. Whatever your preference, jot down extracurricular activities, deadlines for essays, days off from school, and other major events.
4. Plan Ahead
Another studying tip is plan ahead! Pack your schoolwork the night before your classes. Also, iron your clothes and have them laid out. When you wake up in the morning, there will be less confusion. Just eat breakfast and head to school!
5. Create Checklists
Important studying tip, create a checklist. Make it a habit to have a “to-do” list. Checklists serve as a reminder of all the tasks you must complete by the end of the day. Crossing things off the list will give you a sense of empowerment. Plus, you will know exactly what you have accomplished.
