Are you enjoying your summer break? Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to relax and enjoy the sunshine a little bit. If you’re a rising high school senior or an incoming college freshmen, chances are your summer is packed full of things other than trips to the beach or watching episodes of Orange is the New Black. Some of you are probably busy working on your volunteer hours, squeezing in a few college visits, or working at a job to save some money for college. Well, I hate to add more to your already busy summer schedule, but there is one other thing you and every other high school and college student should be working on this summer — scholarships! If you’ve put off applying for scholarships during the school year, now is the time to get to work. You’ve already missed hundreds of opportunities, but there are still plenty of scholarships with summer deadlines waiting to be won. In fact, here are 10 July scholarships to get you started.
1. Spokeo Connections Scholarship
First in the list of July scholarships is the Spokeo Connections Scholarship. Recent high school graduates and current undergraduate students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher may be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship. Three awards are offered annually. Deadline: July 1.
2. “30 Reasons To Be Proud Of My City” Scholarship
This writing contest is open to students 18 years and older. Four $1,000 awards will be provided. Deadline: July 1.
3. QuikshipToner.com Student Scholarship
Current undergraduate and graduate students may apply for this essay contest. One $1,500 scholarship is available. Deadline: July 15.
4. Resume Companion $1,000 Scholarship Giveaway
High school seniors and older may be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship. Students must create a résumé based on the life of a fictional or non-fictional character. One award is available. Deadline: July 15.
5. DirectTextbook.com Essay Contest Scholarship
Students who will be enrolled in college this fall may compete for one of three scholarships offered through this program. Awards range in value from $250 to $2,500. Deadline: July 24.
6. FTF Teen Travel Writing Scholarship
The Family Travel Forum sponsors this annual contest for students in grades 8 through 12. A total of three scholarships are provided, ranging in value from $250 to $1,000 each. Deadline: July 27.
7. Storage.com Scholarship Contest
Current undergraduate students may apply for one of three $2,500 scholarships offered through this program. Parents of undergraduate students may also apply on their behalf. Deadline: July 31.
8. Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship
Another July scholarships is the Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship. Students in grades 9 through 12, as well as those enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, may be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship. Deadline: July 31.
9. Speak Your Mind Scholarship Slam
This poetry competition is open to students 25 years of age or younger. Students may submit work on any topic that inspires them for the chance to win this $1,000Deadline: July 31.
10. Flavor of the Month Scholarship
Students 13 years of age and older may apply for this $1,500 creative writing scholarship. To enter, students must write a short essay explaining which ice cream flavor best represents their personality. Deadline: July 31. While spending your summer applying for scholarships doesn’t seem like much fun, it sure beats spending the next 10 to 20 years paying off student loans. Even winning one award can help reduce your overall student loan debt and your stress levels.
