Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must major in library science.
  4. Must attend a school with an ALA-accredited master's degree program. A list of the eligible programs is available at www.ala.org/accreditedprograms/directory/search.
  5. Must have earned no more than 12 semester hours toward a MLS/MLIS/MIS degree prior to June 1 of the year that the scholarship is awarded.

Additional Information: This award was named for a long-time ALA staff member who was Director of ALA Conference Services for over 20 years. It was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory. Three major factors are considered in awarding these scholarships: academic excellence; leadership; and evidence of commitment to a career in librarianship. Achievement in these areas may best be demonstrated by statements indicating the nature of library and other experience, by professional references, and by the personal statement included in the online application. Recipients will be contacted by phone after June 1. All other applicants will be notified by mail after July 1.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
