City of Jacksonville Disabled Services Scholarship Program

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must currently be served by any Duval County public school's ESE (Exceptional Student Education) program for the disabled.
  3. Must have been a Jacksonville, FL resident for six months or more.
  4. Must have been accepted to an accredited community college, university, or vocational school located in the state of Florida and be scheduled to begin classes in the same calendar year as he/she graduated from high school.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a graduating high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. graduating high school seniors, currently being served by the Duval County Public Schools Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Department with a grade point average of 2.0 or above. Applicants must be a resident of Jacksonville, FL for at least six months and have been accepted to an accredited community college, university or vocational school located in Florida, scheduled to begin classes in the same calendar year as graduated from high school.

Additional Information: Only tuition, books, and necessary auxiliary aids will be funded while the student is attending a community college, university, or vocational school that is located in, and accredited by, the state of Florida or its designated agent.

Award Amount: The award amount varies and is dependent on the availability of funding, continued support by the city council and experience in administering the project. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Information about this award can be found on the Disabled Services Division of the City of Jacksonville website, and can be accessed by searching for "Jim Brady". There is no formal application for this award: Individuals must submit a letter of intent to the Disabled Services Division for the City of Jacksonville. In addition to a letter of intent which should include name, address, daytime phone number and a brief autobiography, each applicant must also submit a letter of acceptance from the school he/she will attend, verification of grade point average, verification of participation in the Exceptional Student Educational (ESE) Program, the source and amount of other scholarships due or received, and a 500-word essay explaining his/her expected course of study, career goals, and why he/she deserves this scholarship. The letter of intent and all supporting information must be received by the listed deadline date.
