Number of Awards & Eligibility: Eighty exceptional high school students will received the scholarship this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a current high school student.
  2. Must meet the minimum age requirement for the desired rating or certificate.
  3. Must be a current paid member of AOPA.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  5. Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75.

Description: The AOPA Foundation offers flight training scholarships. These scholarships help student pilots to succeed and ease the financial burden of flight training. This scholarship program is a part of the AOPA You Can Fly program, a collection of initiatives that aim to build a larger, more vibrant pilot community.

Application requirements for the You Can Fly High School Flight Training Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript.
Additional Information: Membership is required in order to qualify for an AOPA flight training scholarship. You also need to be a current high school student, 15 to 18 years old, and U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident. You’ll need a parent or guardian approval (if under 18 years of age). Also, you must not have completed a sport, recreational, glider, or private pilot certificate at the time of application. Applicants also need a minimum GPA of 2.75 and must agree to complete solo flight or achieve pilot certificate within one year of receiving the scholarship

Award Amount: The grant value is up to $10,000 for direct flight training expenses to pursue a primary pilot certificate.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
