Additional Information: The goal of Out to Protect is to aid in the education and training of new police recruits who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, or transgendered and serve as a positive influence on the law enforcement community. Award selection is typically announced in June and December of each year.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Application forms and information are available online at the Out to Protect Incorporated website. A completed application includes the Personal Information section as well as the Demonstration and Verification section. Students may complete the second section by answering the questions listed on the website, or by uploading an essay on the topics described. Essays must be written in 12-point font, with one-inch margins, and saved in PDF format. It is also strongly recommended that students submit letters of recommendation from individuals who know them on a personal, academic, or professional level. These letters should be scanned, saved in PDF format, and uploaded along with the online application form. Both sections of the application and all supporting documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline.
