Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must use the scholarship for the final (i.e., senior) year of undergraduate study. Generally, students will apply during their junior year. Five-year students must apply in their fourth year.
  4. Must be enrolled full time.
  5. Must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or related baccalaureate program.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who are enrolled in an ABET-accredited mechanical engineering program and are ASME members. Students must use the scholarship for their final year of undergraduate study; five-year students must apply in their fourth year.

  • Recommendation letters (1-2)
Additional Information: This scholarship was made possible by the ASME Auxiliary to honor James M. and Carolyn M. Chenoweth by their daughter Cynthia Pool. Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited school for the upcoming academic year. Information regarding accreditation status is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx. Applicants also must have established a grade point average in their degree programs to qualify. If applicants have not established a grade point average at the college level, they are not eligible to apply.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awardees from past years will not be selected to receive additional scholarships. Students must apply again each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.
