Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  4. Must be pursue a four-year degree in civil engineering or a welding-related degree at an accredited university.
  5. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate students who are 18 years of age or older and are pursing a career in the application of the art of welding in civil and structural engineering. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be able to prove financial need.

Additional Information: Proof of financial need is required to qualify for this award. Please note: The applicant does not have to be a member of the AWS, but it is preferred.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. Applicants may reapply in consecutive years. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average throughout the academic year to apply for continued assistance in successive years. The maximum time allowed for financial aid under this grant is four years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online on the American Welding Society (AWS) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit the following: two letters of reference with one letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience; a personal statement; original official transcript(s) sent directly from the college or university (if applying for more than one scholarship, only one transcript must be an original official transcript); verification of enrollment; an essay as specified on the application; and a statement of unmet financial need. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
