Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time.
  3. Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a two- or four-year program.
  4. Must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry and be majoring in or taking courses that are beneficial to a career in the plastics/polymer industry. This would include, but is not limited to, plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. and international undergraduate students who have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry are eligible for this award. Students must be majoring or taking courses in an area that would benefit the plastics industry; this includes, but is not limited to, plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering.

Application requirements for the Detroit Section/Thomas E. Powers Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letters (3)
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Activities list
  • Resume
  • Essay
Additional Information: Applicants must be in good academic standing with their schools. Financial need is considered for most scholarships. All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipients' schools. The SPE Foundation will not award scholarships to applicants who are not qualified and reserves the right to not award a scholarship in a given year if it so chooses.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
