Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for international and U.S. college juniors and/or seniors. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be enrolled in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program. The applicant must be a member of the Material Advantage student program. (A student membership application may accompany the scholarship application.)

Application requirements for the Functional Materials Division Gilbert Chin Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Recommendation letter (3)
  • Official Transcript
  • Material Advantage membership app. (if applicable)
Additional Information: The following criteria will be assessed by the scholarship selection committee to select the recipient of this scholarship: scholarship application; academic achievement; activities in and out of school, including work experience; leadership; personal profile statement; and letters of recommendation. Relatives of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the TMS Funding Committee/Division are not eligible. Please note: The applicant may apply for up to two of the TMS Scholarship Programs.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. An additional $500 for travel expenses will be available to the recipient to attend the TMS Annual Meeting to accept the award.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
