Additional Information: The purpose of the UA Scholars Program is to provide an incentive for Alaska's middle and high school students to achieve academic excellence, to nourish efforts of schools to provide high quality education, and to encourage the top high school graduates from every community in Alaska to attend the University of Alaska. High schools set their own academic criteria to determine the top 10 percent of their students in the junior class. Typically, cumulative grade point average is the primary consideration. Schools may consider additional academic factors: however, the criteria cannot be based on a student's financial need, intention to enroll or not to enroll at the University of Alaska, continued enrollment at the high school, or results from the High School Graduation Qualifying Exam. Recipients must participate in any mandatory orientation or program required by the campus.

Award Amount: $1,500 per semester, renewable for up to eight semesters, for a total of $12,000. The award will expire after a total of eight semesters of use or within five years of the scholar's graduation from high school. Please note: A scholar may use the award during a summer term if during the preceding spring semester the scholar received a Scholars Award payment. In addition, the scholar must enroll full time for the summer term and be otherwise eligible to use the award. Scholars planning to use their award during a summer term must notify their financial aid office in advance.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.
