Number of Awards & Eligibility: 40 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must demonstrate a critical financial need. $55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; a written explanation must be provided if income is higher.
  5. Must attend high school in California.
  6. Must be enrolled full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the fall semester following graduation.
  7. Must be a resident of California.

Additional Information: The Horatio Alger California Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the state of California who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education. This award is funded through the generosity of Association Member Arthur A. Ciocca and the Ronald C. Waranch Foundation. The applicant must have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution. The student may begin his/her studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. The applicant must also plan to enter college no later than the fall following high school graduation. Each applicant must demonstrate involvement in co-curricular and community activities. Scholarship recipients will be announced in January.

Award Amount: The total value of this award is $10,000, paid out in installments annually. If the student receives this award he/she is guaranteed the funding for the full 5 years by maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. This award is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
