Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants. Approximately 4,500 awards were disbursed in the previsou academic year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be domiciled in the District of Columbia for 12 or more months prior to the application date.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must enroll half time or more as (determined by the college or university).
  5. Must be 24 years of age or younger.
  6. Must be a high school graduate (or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) recipient) or older and have not earned or received a bachelor's degree.
  7. Must have a District of Columbia Taxable Income that does not exceed $1 million annually.

Additional Information: The DC Tuition Assistance Program (DCTAG) was created by Congress in 1999 by the District of Columbia College Access Act; PL 106-98 and amended by DC College Access Improvement Act 2002 and DC College Access Improvement Act 2007 for the purpose of expanding higher education choices for college-bound residents of the District of Columbia. The DCTAG eligible institutions include public four-year colleges and universities throughout the US, Guam and Puerto Rico. private colleges in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, private Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) nationwide and two-year colleges nationwide. Currently DCTAG has students in attending over 300 colleges and universities. A list of colleges and universities participating in DCTAG is available from the OSSE website. Applicants must not be in default status on any federal student loans.

Award Amount: Up to $10,000 per academic year toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public colleges and universities in the US, Guam and Puerto Rico. Awards are limited to a maximum of six (6) years from the date of the first semester the student is enrolled in college and a lifetime maximum of $50,000. Up to $2,500 per academic year at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) nationwide, and private colleges/universities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Awards are limited to a maximum of six (6) years from the date of the first semester the student is enrolled in college and a lifetime maximum of $12,500.Up to $2,500 per academic year toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at two year community colleges. Awards are limited to a maximum of four (4) years from the date of the first semester the student is enrolled in college and a lifetime maximum of $10,000.Awards will be reduced for less than full-time enrollment with no eligibility below the half-time level.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,500.
