Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually, but is approximately 450.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a resident of Washington D.C.
  4. Must be a graduate of a public high school in Washington D.C.
  5. Must be a high school graduate or current college student at time of application.
  6. Must have a minumum grade point average of 2.0

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. high school graduates who are residents of Washington, D.C. and attended a Washington, D.C. high school are eligible for this award. Students must have a minumim GPA of 2.0 and must file a DC-CAP authorization form, a FAFSA, and DC LEAP and DC TAG applications to apply.

Additional Information: DC-CAP is a non-profit organization working in partnership with the District of Columbia School System that provides counseling and financial assistance to student who might otherwise never have the opportunity to attend or graduate from college. Early completion of the application and materials increases the likelihood of receiving an award. Funds are limited, students who complete thier applications after the priority deadline dates will still be eligible but have a significantly reduced chance for receiving aid.

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 annually, renewable for up to five additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

For applications and information, contact the DC-CAP office or visit the DC-CAP website. In order to apply, the student must submit the DC-CAP authorization form (available online) and complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and DC TAG and DC LEAP applications. The student must also submit: a copy of his/her financial aid award letter; a copy of his/her grades for the previous semesters/years in college (this requirement is waived for entering college freshmen); and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.
